I'll just make my own little personal notebook of facts, then.

I already have an idea here, but I'll need some time to look over everything and analyze it, and I just don't have that right now...

Spoiler : :
Just from a rules perspective, will we be told if components of our theory are correct? I would hate to have everything right except for one detail, and then be sent in circles because of it.

Spoiler : :
I will acknowledge a theory that's "close enough" to the solution. I don't need a perfect alphabet here. As long as I have a basic idea behind the crime and the way around certain reds that might be considered problematic, I will acknowledge it as a valid theory.

CURSE YOU DWAM
THAT WAS MY ONLY THEORY
NOW YOU SHOT IT DOWN AND I'M OUT OF IDEAS

actually, you said you'd find it helpful if we corrected you whenever you make a logic error or contradict the reds, so I'm doing that right now. The real solution contradicts 11 of your reds~

Just in case you miss this:
DWaM wrote:I put that the key was on Franziska's forehead instead of Larry's. There are no logic errors, and the crime works in the same way. But the execution of a certain element might be a bit different. Therefore, I will acknowledge a theory that has "the key was on Larry's" forehead, as well.

Spoiler : Blue Truth :
A person went to the bathroom between the time Franziska von Karma and Larry Butz left the lounge, and by the time they were found dead.

*Sigh*
DWaM wrote:I will only respond to theories that present their answers in detail - as in, the entire process of the trick. Theories like 'the gun was shot', are not really something worth answering.
There is a reason this is in place - by answering specific blues, I'm basically giving away reds, which shouldn't be necessary.

Spoiler : VERY WELL. :
Edgeworth is the culprit.

Edgeworth needed the bathroom, for sure, but he saw the opportunity to kill Franziska and Larry while he was out of the lounge.

He shot Franziska and Larry and hid them in the courtroom, placing guns in their hands to make it look as if they killed each other. However, he didn't realize that they were the wrong guns - that in Larry's hand was the gun that shot him, same with Franziska.

Edgeworth also laid the bodies on top of each other.

He duct taped the key to Franziska's head after locking the room so that nobody could get in from the hallway.

He then returned from the bathroom CONVENIENTLY right as the others were reaching the hallway.

(If this breaks any reds or Knox thingies, don't hesitate to say so!)

Spoiler : :
Person V left the lobby, unnoticed by Kristoph. Person V is mentally ill and seeing an opportunity to kill, took it. Person V forced Larry and Franziska into the room at gunpoint and left the door open a crack. The locking mechanism of the door works such that the key activates or deactivates a locking mechanism that prevents the door from being opened when it is closed. The key was used to activate the locking mechanism. Then, Person V forced Franziska/Larry to tape it to her forehead, and both were forced to stand in position. Without warning, Person V shot both, and they died instantaneously. The guns were quickly planted on the bodies, and Person V dashed out, closing the door to create the locked-room illusion. Person V then rejoined the party.

@Gav:
Doesn't break Knox.
Just basic logic.

Unless he can walk through walls, this is more or less impossible.

The key on Franziska's/Larry's (depends on what variation you're going for here) is the only key to the room.
The door Gumshoe broke down was locked.
The door is the only means of exiting the room.
(The window version was explained in the actual game).

Though... I don't quite get it.
What you're suggesting is... the door can be locked while opened, is that it? Just so we're clear.

Spoiler : :
Yes, I argue the possibility that the door can be locked while opened.

(It's just that you wrote "closed while opened", so I was confused.) XD
No such locking mechanism exists.
In order for the door to be locked, the key has to be placed inside of the keyhole, and the door fully closed when (the key is) turned. (In other words, like a normal door.)
