RPG Maker
Discussion of the awesome game making tools by Enterbrain goes here.
But here's a conversation starter:
I am working on an RPG project (everything will be custom, BTW, so RTP doesn't matter) and I was wondering which program I should use; XP or VX?

Our love for him now, ain't hard to explain
The hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne

Re: RPG Maker
This is ridiculous how many games we are working on as a whole right now. I say that you should stick to one as a whole, and do the other one later to avoid juggling multiple tasks. Honestly, it's annoying how many projects we have going >_>

You guys would barely get any things if you guys have too many projects.Mouse wrote:This is ridiculous how many games we are working on as a whole right now. Re: RPG Maker
I'm kidding.
By working on another project is what I would have meant if I hadn't been joking.
Or, in other words,
Y SO SRS?

I'm good with multitasking...
Well...except when it comes to animating sprites.
I'm sorry Geno. I really need to work on that. ;_;

Re: RPG Maker
I actually posted a topic about this some time ago but yeah . It really depends on what you're aiming for though. If you want better mapping tools and more tilesets to work with, go with XP. If you want an easier environment to work with, with limited tilesets to use, then VX is the way to go.
I personally went with VX because I didn't plan on using many tilesets (A-E is enough for me) and it has a cleaner interface than XP does. The way it was designed also requires less resources to make too.
The downside to VX is that your maps would look kind of blocky due to how the mapping system is designed. There's also only two map layers instead of 3 like in XP, so making really good maps is gonna be pretty difficult if you've used XP before. And then there's some things that you can't enter in by default, such as battle backgrounds. However, there are scripts that allows you to add them in, as well as adding in more tilesets.

Re: RPG Maker
Hrm... I guess I'll do XP then. Three layers FTW.
BTW, did you know that VX came out the day after my birthday. And by that, I mean the 29th of February.

Re: RPG Maker
Yeah, I got it the day it came out (They were just lucky it was a leap day). I'm working on a psychological horror RPG with VX right now, which is why I haven't been around very much lately. I'm actually having a bit of a hard time with it right now because I'm the only one working on it. I'm also trying to make 100% custom resources, which I will be drawing the graphics by hand instead of using the computer to do it since I'm not very good at pixel art.
Oh, and the reason why I don't need a lot of tilesets for this project is because I'm planning to do panorama mapping.

Re: RPG Maker
Cool, you go to RRR as well? I don't think I've seen you there, or maybe I have and I just don't remember. I usually help people there and maybe request a script or two if I want something (Though no one ever takes them up >_< ). I have yet to post any details about my project yet since I'm still planning out the story. The way I planned it out, it sounds a little too similar to TWEWY though, and I just realized it after I recently went back to play that game.
