"That is easy to explain away, Mr. Daan. For instance, the knife could have been somehow lost in the struggle between defendant and victim, and she grabbed the first thing she could.", Jibber said with a smug grin on his face.

Geno slams the desk with his palm, his head tilted downward, but his lancing glare aimed at the prosecution.

"Then why is there no mention of knife wounds in the autopsy reports, nor are there any marks on my client? Furthermore, if a knife was used, it would stick out like...a knife at a crime scene. There'd not be an easy way to stash it. This is a clear cut contradiction, if you'll pardon the pun."

"A-a knife? What did you say? Am I to believe that the Court Record is wrong?"
Luke was confused. However, he did realize that this would be a prime time to hand out some penalties...

"Let us consider," Jane started, tapping a finger on the bench in front of her, "What most likely happened. The witness saw the defendant leaving her house. As she clearly described the defendant's expression, I believe it's safe to say that the witness was looking at the defendant's face. Now, she says that she saw a knife."

"Are we to assume that anyone would walk out of their house brandishing a knife? In fact, would anyone brandish anything walking out of their house? It's far more likely that the defendant had something relatively close to her body, veiled behind a cloak or a jacket of some sort. In this case, the witness would have some trouble seeing exactly what the defendant was holding. Why does she say that it was a knife, then? Clearly, she saw a light reflecting off of something and guessed that it was a knife. Now, what if it was not a knife? What if it was something else that reflected light? A CD copy of The Gavinners' Greatest Hits? Note this, defendant. Poetic justice isn't as brilliant when it incriminates you."

"However, she could have easily been watching the knife, and barely saw the expression! This is why the prosecution should never speak for the witless. I mean...witness."

"How could the witness see the knife? Suppose the defendant was carrying a knife. Why would she hold it somewhere that someone else could see? If she was holding something delicate, however, she would be forced to hold it in her hands."

Jane played with a lock of her with her left hand as she smiled.

"By the way, are you trying to argue that your client left her house armed with a knife? Then she must have had an intent to kill. What say you to that, dear defense attorney?"

"Let's say my client had a knife. That would make her completely and totally innocent."

"According to the witness's testimony, it's true." Geno slams his palm on the desk. Again.

My hand's starting to hurt.

"If my client was holding the knife, this effectively clears her. Can the witness, and ONLY the witness please clarify this for me?"

"I clearly remember what I saw."

"The defendant had left her house with a knife in her hand."

"But couldn't there have been time to switch weapons?"

"If she had planned this out, she wouldn't have been as stupid as to leave it behind."

"After all, she is a "popular" highschool snob."

"They come up with stuff like that all the time."
