Studio Ghibli Thread

Post by Dramatica »

So, yeah. These are quite possibly the best anime people you can find. And I know at least 2 of us, including me, like them.

...yeah. I bought Whisper of the Heart today, and plan to watch it tomorrow. Grave of the Fireflies is quite possibly the saddest fictional thing I've ever seen, ever, beating Mother 3 and you-know-what.

Um, Ghibli is a certain anime... studio. This isn't an "anime in general" thread. Sorry for being unclear.

I haven't seen a lot of Ghibli stuff, but Grave of the Fireflies was really good.

Is it true they did some work for Neon Genesis Evangelion, too? I never noticed...

I saw Grave of the Fireflies long ago, and I remember I liked it very much.

More recently, I've become a fan of Nausicaa and Mononoke, two of the best productions of Ghibli ever :P

I don't know, I didn't find Mononoke very memorable. Though apparently I'm the only one.

I just thought the ending a bit weird
Spoiler : Mononoke spoiler :
With the deer god turning into a squishy substance :-P
But overall, the drawings were very beautiful and the musics are epic. The story is... unusual, for the western world, but it's quite poetic, too :-)

Oh my God, Pom Poko. From Wikipedia:

"Prominent testicles are an integral part of Tanuki folklore, and they are shown and referred to throughout the movie, and also used frequently in their shapeshifting. This remains unchanged in the DVD release, though the English dub (but not the subtitles) refers to them as "pouches". Also, in the English dub and subtitles, the animals are never referred to as tanuki, but incorrectly as raccoons."

I know it's completely normal to a Japanese audience, but... *tee hee immature laughs*

There is a long and involved scene about 'Ball Magic' in the movie.
I was laughing all the way through it.
