Yeah.
Ike came and told us that.
We all changed our names to something identifiable.

Just to clarify:
"You must use your forum username (or a clearly identifiable variation) as your xat chatroom name, unless you use a registered xat account which name already follows this rule."
Some of us were registered. Some weren't. :P

Wacky that'll cut it for the people that are registered.

And, like I had said, that could be interpreted to be of "malicious" intent as, even if registered, you are causing the box to be all but inoperable as people are required to consistently check on who is talking and the likes. As is, changing your names to what they were last I checked is fine.
And all the carries and junglers will look up and shout "Save us!" and I'll whisper...

We should just ban having groups like this.
I mean even I get confused with this.
HUGHES.
WACKY_HUGHES
Truf deHUGHES
They all have the same avy.
If they all had different avys i don't think I would mind.
AND I WAS ONE.
And I just said this.

Uhh, the only one that should be banned technically is HUGHES (BP, that is). When I checked, there was no registration and he does not have an AAO identifier in his name so...

But I'm opposed to banning what Detective said for one reason: learn to deal with it! As long as they aren't too disruptive or violating the rules, there really shouldn't be any problems. Of course when everyone is HUGHES (all the same name with no variation), then that's breaking the rules. But when there's a variation of the name that at least has an identifier, there shouldn't be any problems.

Not a person.
As long as there is a way to identify the person it should be fine.

But I don't think you were all registered as "HUGHES".

Anyway, this is mostly out of my hands, since I technically don't deal with what goes on in xat.

I've changed this rule...

"You must use your forum username (or a clearly identifiable variation) as your xat chatroom name."

...because I've just realised that you can override your username. :XD:

You can change your nickname, but you can't change your account name .__. That's why the rules was that if you have an account and it's your AAO name, you can make your nick whatever, b/c you're still identifiable by your xat account name

Not really. No one ever looks at that. There's no need to have a different display name. It causes too much confusion. :)

Nicknames =/= usernames. Hence why the xat registration exemption was used in the first place...
Hence, my username is my AAO name and my nickname (public name) is whatever I wanted it to be.
Hell, if I wanted to, I could use Saget as my public name but when you click the name on the right panel, it shows my xat username.

IIRC the reason the rule was put in place was because somebody tried to impersonate a banned member to get that banned member into even more trouble (on the forums). That wasn't the case ever since.

I do the same thing. The nickname thing has been around for as long a the chat has existed. The only time it caused trouble was once. I really don't see the need for this rule. All it takes is one time clicking on the button and you know who they are. Really, I think that it should be fine the way it's always been. If you're registered, you should be allowed to have a nickname.
