Expression engines, how do they work?

Post by Marios2 »

(Title is a parody of "Magnets, how do they work?")

Like the title suggests, I can't figure out how to use the expression engine to save my life.

I have here these test variables to test the expression engine:

I know that doing [#var:test1] in dialogue shows the number 5. However, trying to do anything with variables in here (test5) does nothing. Operators also don't seem to work (test3 and test4). These things seperately with Load from runtime expression don't seem to do anything, either, so I must be doing something wrong.

How would you do the subtraction in test3 or test4, and how you would you add variables on top of that in test5?

Okay, so I realized the issue was trying to perform operations with variables that are being defined in the same action. Doing the operation in another action seems to fix the issue. Think I'll make a tutorial with examples on using the expression engine in the future (there's a lot of words, but little examples of use)
