My first spriteing attemp: OC Style!

Post by tb2fan »

I wanted to make a trial, but needed sprites, so eventually, I realized I would need to make them myself if I wanted top get anywhere. Sorry it's not animated. I don't know how to make gifs.

If anyone likes, I make more.

I can't make it the background transparent, I need help with that.
Spoiler : :

It's very messy, and not very pleaant to look at.

The design has potential, but it needs better execution. Try differentiating a little more between the colours and the outlines.

Okay, well here's my crit on the sprite:
Spoiler : Let's go! :
-Well, for starters, the design is really cool! I see what you were trying to do there.
-As for his hair, the outlines are kinda jagged and there are some mis-colored pixels near the edges. The back of the hair also seems kinda... off. Other than that it looks pretty cool!
-His face is a bit... odd. The outlines and darker shades don't match up with the main 2. The eyebrow also doesn't look quite right IMO...
-His suit is a really obvious rip of Payne's. To make that a little less obvious, try putting some difference in the tie or the suit itself, I can imagine something like a fire design. Also, the outlines don't match again
-Finally, the size doesn't match up with most AA sprites. Try using a different base, if that helps.
For transparency and animations, I would recommend using gimp. Ask me how in a PM if you want :)

I have a few resons for the poor quality of this

1:No artistic skills
2:Pressed for time
3:Cruddy mouse made for hard edit
4:This is my first attempt
5:I'm a begginner, so I don't have all the programs or anything, all I have is paint.
6:Most spriting cites are locked to me, as I am using my schools network

So I apologize for the quality of this being lower than gumshoes salary :gumshoe:

Paint is all you need. That's what I use, and so a lot of other great spriters. There's no features not provided by Paint that you will really use, 'cept for transparency and animation. Also, a mouse wouldn't make a difference because you're not really "drawing" with your mouse. You're placing it, clicking, and/or dragging. Try using the line tool and the curved line tool while doing outlines, and the pencil tool for individual pixels.

Well, I'm a crap artist, but, as cliched as it is, practice DOES make perfect.
2:Pressed for time
What's the stress? There isn't a deadline...
3:Cruddy mouse made for hard edit
I use a touchpad :awesome:
4:This is my first attempt
Retrying exists! Don't give up!
5:I'm a begginner, so I don't have all the programs or anything, all I have is paint.
I use paint for all of my sprites. They don't turn out great, but many other great spriters use it too. I only use gimp for transparency and animations, and sometimes to resize sketches.
6:Most spriting cites are locked to me, as I am using my schools network
Just wondering, do you have a computer at home? And have you tried CR? If that doesn't work, I could give you images of spritesheets by PM, if that's what you mean.

So I apologize for the quality of this being lower than gumshoes salary :gumshoe:
Hey, it's better than my first attempt.

I can't tell if you're agreeing with me or pointing out my mistake. :XD: Hopefully both.

When I looked at the hair of the sprite, and then saw dave's avatar, I realized part of it kinda looks exactly the same hahaha

Something's up with dude's face...lack of shading i think?

Nah, it's the fact that the outlines don't match up with the other colors.
