Proposition: Fanfic Competitions
Hello all, as you can probably tell, I am proposing and idea for regular fan fiction competions much like our trial and art competitions. Our community has many great story writers and those who have had already written fanfic, so I made this topic to see if there was any interest in doing so and so we can come up with some basic rules to follow and regular time lapse for them. I personally believe that a month should be enough for a 30,000 word or less entry (That's about a thousand words a day). We also would need to decide if there should be a minimal length, and if so, should it be for all competitions or determined by the creator.
Here are some rules I believe should be in place:
1. No rule 34
2. Keep it rated PG-13 or less
3. Should have at least a little connection to Ace Attorney/ Investigations, but cross-overs without the courtroom or investigation setup should not be deterred.
4. Fic does not have to be completed, but will not be chosen over one that is finished (unless if it surpasses or is close to surpassing word count and if quality of completed is no where near the quality of the incomplete)
For choosing the winner, I suggest a somewhat combination of the art and trial competitions. What I mean by this is that the host picks two or three of who he believes is the best and then the community votes from there.
Other than that, I'm open to ideas, and I'd like to hear what the rest of you guys think.

I don't really find it to be that good to nail the topic to Ace Attorney every time. Idunno why though.Trybien wrote:3. Should have at least a little connection to Ace Attorney/ Investigations, but cross-overs without the courtroom or investigation setup should not be deterred.
Also I would so participate in this but I suck at Fanfics ;w;
Re: Proposition: Fanific Competitions
I don't think quantity of the fanfic pages should matter...maybe set a minimum, but reasonable word length, sure.
It would be nice if it didn't have to rely on the AA universe, but I like your idea of how the winner gets voted in (voting from top three).

Hm, I too think that 30,000 words is pushing it a bit... Maybe you should start out with a one-shot competition and if there is interest move on to longer fics.
Re: Proposition: Fanific Competitions
I figured that the first competition wouldn't have a minimum.
@Puddin': What I meant by that was it the fic should be related to AA by story or setup, so you can go to other universe as long as it involves courts, investigation, and/or contain characters frpm AA.

What's a fanific?
Re: Proposition: Fanific Competitions
A fanfic is the shorten term for fan fiction, or a story based off another by an author other than the original.Unknown Detective wrote:What's a fanific?

I think he's referring to the typo in the title of the topic.

Okay das good.
Anyway time for some actual input.
Not ALL of the writers on here like fanfics (Like me but none of you have seen my serious writing)
So maybe more of a general writing competition would be funner and have more variety?
Just my two cents.

That is a good point to be considered, and I'd be lying if I said I haven't thought of that myself. We'll just have to see how a first one will turn out, then we can come to that decision.Unknown Detective wrote:Okay das good.

Re: Proposition: Fanfic Competitions
Well, how about each competition has a theme, like the case comps, and the writers can choose between an original piece or a fanfic, as along as they pertain to the theme? And there can be different categories once in a while. It could be only one-shots at some point, or even poetry once in a while. Try out different styles of literature. There could be genres, too. Anyway, I guess my point is that everybody has their own unique writing style and sense of humour, so it wouldn't be fair to restrict them to a particular kind of writing every time.
