"There is in them a softer fire than the ruby, there is the brilliant purple of the amethyst, and the sea green of the emerald - all shining together in incredible union. Some by their splendor rival the colors of the painters, others the flame of burning sulphur or of fire quickened by oil."
-- Gaius Plinius Secundus
Sitting atop an ocean of blue is the SS Indominus. A ship on cruise around the world, whose hull has braved Gyarados jaws and Sharpedo fangs on its many noble voyages. Powered by the flames of the mighty Slugma, and surrounded by a convoy of Pelipper bodyguards, the ship continues, ever onwards to bring the passengers safely on their way.
Aboard this mighty ship are four humble trainers, brimming with hope and energy. Jade Ita, Roland Nolastname, Velvet Rose, and Merle Hazel. They call themselves "Team Opal", a name bestowed upon them by their beneficiary. Their goal: to defeat 8 Gym Leaders and prove their worth on a grand tour of Unova. Their first stop: Castelia City, the heart of Unova.
As the SS Indominus pulls itself into the harbor, two curious figures approach the docks, unlike any other standing about.
One was a woman; nay a scientist. Clad in a clean white labcoat and pince nez eyeglass, with a bush of lush olive hair spreading over her head. The other was a young girl, likely no older that 13 years of age. A single glance tells you that she's the scientist's daughter, the same olive green hair tied up in a bow while she adjusted her own over sized glasses. She beamed excitedly, practically dragging her mother along by an invisible wire, while the Indominus sounded its horn and the bridge began to lower.
"They're here, right on schedule!" The girl declares, checking her wrist-mounted C-Gear. "This is so exciting! I can't wait to see them for real!"
Her mother replied with a somewhat weary smile, and set her hand on the girl's shoulder-- A hand not of flesh and blood, but of steel.
"Well, well," Another voice called; a nearby Ace Trainer approached the two with a friendly grin, "I never expected to see you around here, Professor! What gives?"
Professor Olive glanced away from her daughter and greeted the Trainer with a polite smile. "Oh, my daughter's getting together with some of her 'online' friends. It's something they've been planning for a long while."
"My own personal experiment!" The youth declared proudly, "An all-expense-paid campaign across Unova. My friends wanted to take on a Pokemon League together as one, but they lived too far apart-- So I brought them here, to Unova, to take on our league! With me as their guide, they can't fail!"
She raised her wrist, gesturing to the electronic device perched upon it-- Something well known to Unovians as a "C-Gear". With a click, she brought up a logo of a glittering gem, split into four colors: jade green, velvet red, indigo blue, and raven black.
"Team Opal," said Isabelle proudly. "Came up with the name myself."
"How altruistic," The Ace Trainer remarked, with a glance to the Professor, "And this is all coming out of whose wallet?"
Professor Olive's grin wavered. "I made her a deal that she'd organize everything, make all the arrangements, and collect 600 samples of Trubbish DNA and I'd fund it. Needless to say..."
"I smelled like garbage for a week!" Isabelle declared proudly, and suddenly the Ace Trainer realized that what he'd presumed to be the stench of the docks was suddenly emanating a lot stronger from the girl.
"But yes, she did her work," The Professor said, "And from what I hear, her friends are determined to do this. I spoke with their parents, and it was done."
"Team Opal is go!" Isabelle said.
"Ha ha," The Ace Trainer shook his head. "What things you all get up to. Well, it was good to see you again, Professor. I think I'm gonna go hang out in the fair. Good luck, kid."
Isabelle beamed in response, and then put her attention squarely back on the SS Indominus, her heart racing. Finally, it was time.
The bridge connected and the voice of the captain informed the passengers that it was time to depart. The passengers began to pour out of the ship, first in a trickle, then in a cascade of bodies. All the while, the curious mother and daughter stood calmly. The mother then reached into her bag, and, producing a small sign from the bag, held it above her head in her prosthetic hand-- Which suddenly extended upwards from the wrist, high into the air.
"Team Opal" read the sign. It was unmistakable and unmissable.
Team Opal finally makes it to the bridge, bags in hand and ready to depart. It's been a long journey, but the adventure can finally begin.
"Here we go." Isabelle said with a grin.
