Forum rules (last updated 2011-08-17)

Post by Meph »

Forum games forum rules
These are the rules only apply to this forum. The consequence of breaking a rule will be decided by staff.
  • You must add the following prefixes to the titles of these types of games:-
    • Add "Mafia:" to topics that are Mafia games.
    • Add "RP:" to topics that are general role playing games.
    • Add "RP TBP:" to topics that are Trial by Posts* role playing games.
  • You must not create a topic that is not a game.
  • You must not create spam games**.
*Trial by Posts are role playing games where trials and investigations are set out in the style of an Ace Attorney game.
**Spam games are forum games that encourage (possibly short) posts that are objectively irrelevant, do not add any real content to the game and will most likely be ignored later.

If you think that these rules should be changed or added to, reply to this topic.

What if your RP isn't a TRIAL but an investigation?

If a game is Trial by Posts, it means that it is set in the AA universe or is played like an AA game. Sorry, I should have clarified that.

You must not create a Mafia game if there is another Mafia game being played.

Yeah, I can't help but wonder why Mafia games are the only ones that don't allow multiples.

I disagree with this rule, especially since they're two differently run games, and also one of them is only intermittently active. That's like saying you can only have one RP going at a time, and that wouldn't be very fair.

Wrong and wrong. They're essentially the same game. A werewolf-type mafia, at the very core of it all. And you can't really blame Don't Luke Atmey's game for running a bit slow. He had problems with the internet. Ike, I'm sorry, but you need to apologize to Luke, as the part about running too slow was a bit too preemptive and rude, and the fact that Luke said he had problems with his internet connection. Not everybody has FIoS or fast internet.

I have nothing to say about the second part, though.

At the time I was writing these rules, I was thinking of making Mafia games into a big thing. I was thinking of having a sticky thread that had a Mafia Calendar (a schedule of who will host the next Mafia game) and a Leaderboard for who has won Mafia games. However, I never got round to it, so I guess it's not going to happen.

Should I remove the rule?

^^ Same here, it seems like a pointless rule.

Yes, it should be removed.
I applied the rule but I still think it's odd.

I don't recall saying anything negative about Luke's game running slow, just that it was. I realize that I am rather impatient, but I had intentions of getting up my variant of the game even if his had been running at optimal speed seeing as they are both the same game at core, but have major differences in how it runs. That'd be like saying that Street Fighter shouldn't exist because Mortal Kombat (I'm not sure which came first, but I assume this analogy will still work) was already a fighter game. Even though they are both the same game at core, I'd believe there were sufficient differences between the two to warrant them both the right to exist.

While I understand that I violated the rule, I personally feel that the rule should be removed, seeing as I don't see much disadvantage in having two or more games running simultaneously.

That rule shouldn't count, because the rule would have counted in the past where Mafia was a big thing.

I was simply saying that they're both essentially the same type of game. Sure, you have a night variation, but a werewolf mafia game is a werewolf mafia game.

I vote in favor of removing that rule. I, too, think it's quite odd.

I know. I know firsthand how annoying internet issues are. However, I didn't mean that as a put-down to Luke, I was just saying that we might as well have another one going since the first is going slowly. And though they are the same core game, the positions and everything are different. Though it seems like a moot point now.
