What is this?
This is a little bit of a blend between mafia style-game's, RP's and straight forum games like LRMMB (Locked Room Murder Mystery Battle) that centers around the idea of discovering who's the greatest detective.
How do I play?
Basically, this game takes place in elimination rounds. In these rounds you'll be given a mystery you have to solve. These mysteries might be general such as: whodunnit, whydunnit and/or howdunnit or they might be more specific like: murder or suicide, was this a planned murder or not, was this a serial murder or coincidence, etc. Once you solve it, you will have to provide your deductions that lead to that answer. The person with the faultiest logic or answer will then be eliminated from the game. Remember, you cannot change your deduction (answer) once you have declared it.
Sounds good. How do I sign up?
Signing up is simple. No stress, no fuss at all. Basically, all you have to do is choose a detective from any work of fiction and then post their name in the thread in bold. It's as simple as that. No need for profiles or anything. After you post that, I'll send you a PM listing two powers of your character, a limiter and an item.
Woah! Hold up, there! That's a lot of things that need clarifying. Let's start with the first thing. What constitutes a detective?
I'm glad you asked. A detective can come in 3 classes which I'll explain right now:
Class A: The Detective
A character who is classified as being a detective within the work. Is also the one who performs the deductions and solves the mysteries. Eg. Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Kindaichi.
Class B: The Protagonist
A character who is clearly the protagonist in any mystery based fiction. Eg. Keiichi Maebara, Battler Ushiromiya, Ms. Marple
Class C: A Detective
In comparison to class A and B, this is a character who is defined as being a detective but is not the protagonist or the one who normally solves the crime. Eg. Furudo Erika, Oishi Kuraudo, Kogoro Mouri.
Alright. I get what a detective is classed as, but what are these powers and limiters and stuff?
These are special elements that affect your character in all different ways. Allow me to explain:
Powers/abilities:
Each character will be provided with two abilities that allow them to do very specific things within the game that other characters couldn't. For example Detective X might have the ability Perfect Eavesdropper which might allow them to read any opponents theory/deduction. These vary according to character and are designed to reflect that characters actual abilities.
Limiters
Limiters are special rules that your character has to abide by that limit how they play or what theories they can make. For example, Detective X might have the limiter irrational fear which means that he can't examine the body for clues.
Items
Each character will be provided with one item that they can use however they'd like. For example, a magnifying glass can be used to read fine print or examine dust.
Alright, I think I get it. So, what does the winner get?
I'll make them and avatar or sig of their chosen detective proclaiming that detective and subsequently them the king/queen of detectives.
