Hayate raised two of his palms in the air, and caught the punch. However, even with two hands, this hit was still enough to whack the helmet at least slightly, and Hayate stumbled back a bit. It was a very muted impact, but it still shook Hayate.

Flames started coming out of his gloves, however.

Charlotte wasn't sure how to feel about their odds. On one hand, it was good to see that she wasn't the only one who had volunteered. THAT would have been extremely awkward. At the same time... There was a feeling in the back of her mind that she was essentially saying that she was okay with the possibility of her dying. She shook her head. No, of course, that wouldn't happen. She was too important to serve as mere cannon fodder, and she would help end the war with her own skills. She didn't have any delusions of sacrificing herself or 'dying heroically'. She was going to live.

"My, my... It looks like we have quite the group! I'm sure all of this will go swimmingly. ... As soon as we have a plan."

Kenshin chuckled nervously at Ray's enthusiasm. "Well...so long as there's some energy being put to good use..." Then, he turned to Raphael. "I'm unsure. As worried as I am for Hayate...Gohra might not be a significant enough threat for us to focus all our energy on him. He's not likely to shift focus from a one-on-one duel, given his personality...and we need to focus on a plan to stop this missile hreat, first and foremost. We...may just have to trust Hayate on this one."

He turned towards Wakana. "That said, I want a visual of the battle. We don't know the circumstances, and I don't want to risk shifting attention unless we know Hayate has it handled. Any progress on picking up video feed of the beach, yet, Waka...?"

Wakana suddenly went silent.

"...Waka...?"

"Y-You..." She looked over to Kenshin and the other Riders with a shocked expression on her face. "You might want to see this."

Wakana turned the computer monitor towards the Riders. It didn't show Hayate and Gohra's battle as one might expect, thought. Instead....

----

"Attention...humans."

The face of Dexis Zebanon, head scientist of the Kalcion Armada, was on the screen of the Justice HQ. But not just there. The image of the man was seen across the city of Kyoto, on nearly every Kalcion HoverCam floating about the battlefield. He even appeared on a number of large screens on the sides of city buildings. His face and his message were everywhere.

"You have been a thorn in the sides of our people for far too long. You and your supposed heroes, the soldiers that refer to themselves as the Justice Riders. I do hope you have placed good faith in those soldiers, because their failure now means your extermination. I am not a patient enough man to delay my message further, however. This is a challenge for the Justice Riders. Your city will be destroyed by the almighty Kalcion, should you fail to overcome this challenge."

The people still desperately trying to escape the city began to panic even more as the words of Dexis Zebanon echoed through the streets.

"We have just commenced the firing sequence on an array of our planets mightiest air-born missiles, humans. Should they impact your city, it will surely be destroyed...and those people still within it shall surely perish. But do not fret. Your situation is not entirely devoid of hope, Justice Riders. But these missiles are designed to destroy technology even of our own caliber. And it seems the only technology you have with a hope to stop this strike...is that of the mechs you scrapped together from that which you stole from us. I do hope your species s evolved enough to understand my implications, humans."

Dexis rose his head in the video, to glare down at the camera with...a look of disdain and disgust that seemed almost uncharacteristic of the cold man he had come across as.

"Fight and perish or let your people die like vermin. Do not disappoint me now, Justice Riders. The launch sequence is now beginning."

----

Justice HQ

"D-Dammit...!"

The video message paused on the monitor, locking it to that screen. Kenshin slammed his fist onto the table.

"They're already commencing the attack, then...dammit, our early intel barely made a difference!"

"Kenshin, get a hold of yourself!" Wakana shouted back. "And stop swearing in front of Rin! Look, I know it looks bad, but there's something about that message that felt really off to me." She put her finger to her temple. "Think about it. He just gave us a warning for when the attack is going to happen. And furthermore, he broadcast it - most likely to more than just the computer his daughter bugged, given his language. What does that all mean, then?"

GiGi chimed in. "T-That means he broadcast it to the entire city, doesn't it?"

"More than that," Razzmatazz added. "Those weird floaty TVs looked like they were broadcasting a news channel. I'd bet you anything that footage is making rounds on their home planet, too. They're showboating."

"Correct!" Wakana said with a snap. "He's likely doing it for show, but it's odd that he'd show that to us, as well, instead of just keeping us in the dark. And he acted like this was news to us - he was dimly lit and acting all intimidating, so I bet he expects us to be cowering in our boots at this revelation. What does that mean?"

"It means," Kenshin replied, "that he doesn't know info was leaked."

Wakana snapped again, now with a smirk. "Correct. It's looking like our little insider was telling the truth. They're probably showing off to their people to make the military look all badass like that spy said, and they're probably none the wiser that there's a spy on our side. We don't have an exact plan in place yet, sure, but I don't think we're at a wash yet. He said he's firing now, but I'm willing to bet we have a couple minutes to prep while his little vlog is circulating on the news." She slammed her hands on the desk. "It's now or never!"

Kenshin nodded. "Right. We only have these precious few minutes to work on a plan..." He thought silently for a moment. "Everyone, get yourself and any able-bodied Riders to a Zord!"

GiGi tried to interject. "B-But Kenshin, that's exactly what-"

"We need to move immediately," Kenshin interrupted. "I'm not saying we should give up and fall for their plot, but there's not much we can doo outside of the Zords right now. He's expecting us to panic, but we already know what he's going to do, so we can get an upper hand on him. We'll just have to work through the rest of our plan once we're properly armed." He grit his teeth. "It's a shaky plan, I know. Like I said, I'm not the best at this. But we're low on options, and we have to do what we can. If we're down to our last options...we'll have to at least minimalize the casualties as best as we can."

He gestured to the rest of the Riders again. "Go! Head to the Zord Hangars and get out of here ASAP! I'll meet you on the outside! Our backs may be against the wall, but we'll kick and struggle to the very end!"

----

The Beach

Gohra chuckled as he kept pushing his fist against Hayate's grip. "Beh heh heh...Catch and dodge all you can, and strike as hard as you will, but you know I won't stop that easily! Even as I stare death in the eyes, I feel more alive than ever right now! I'm not going to stop fighting until the last second...!"

As the two stood there, the sound of an elderly voice echoed from the distance. The sound of the video message was just barely loud enough to be heard as a faint whisper from that beach. Gohra, still pushing against his opponent, took a moment to listen to the noise. "Heh...coming from the city, sounds like. I guess Old Man Zebanon is finally starting to push his plan forward. Figured he'd be behind this scheme...the man's as dishonorable as they come. He'd have this planet wiped clean by now if Prince Malchior hadn't pushed against it for so long...Oh well. It does not matter now!"

Gohra suddenly shoved back and jumped away from Hayate, returning to a combat prep stance. "So the countdown to the sunset apocalypse has nearly reached its climax!" he shouted. He glanced back towards the city, and spotted something...a lone HoverCam, glaring at the two of them, at the edge of the beach. "Little spy, eh...?" He chuckled again, ignoring it before turning back towards Hayate. "We've got five minutes tops! So tell me, Hayate Kawaguchi..." He grinned. "How fun are these last five minutes going to be?"

Justice HQ - Medical Bay:

Soul laid on one of the beds, still unconscious from her injuries and dehydration. Her breathing was faint, barely noticeable, but there. The blood had been cleaned up for the most part, though she was bruised all over, and still quite pale from her lack of water. Ray, still in his Rider outfit minus his helmet, was pacing the room, seemingly not having much else to do. Every now and again he stopped to sit in the chair right beside Soul and start tapping his foot at speeds comparable to that of an itchy dog. This lasted an average of about three minutes before he got up and start pacing again. A Nurse occasionally walked by, and every time, Ray asked her for another glass of water. She looked at the collection growing by Soul's side for a moment before exchanging a glare with him. Then she remembered this would be the fourth time this guy lectured her about the Amethyst suit, and complied. Ray sat down again, and Soul stirred. Slowly, and with a groan, her eyes opened.

"Mornin', sunshine." Ray greeted Soul with... not as much conviction as he would've liked. "So. Learn anything today?" His question was met with another groan, though it was unclear to him whether it was through exasperation or through physical pain.

"...You again..."

"Yep. Gotcha a few presents. Hope you enjoy." Ray gestured toward the multitude of water glasses sitting on the side of the bed opposite of him. Soul slowly turned her head, adjusted her position on the bed, and grabbed the one closest to her. She didn't say a word to him, too busy hydrating herself again. "Heh. Figured I got you roped into this mess, I should probably do my best to help you along..."

Soul, glass still to her lips, shot him a glare that practically froze him in place.

"Okay, okay. You still hate me for that. And I'm not trying to say you're not justified for that. You definitely are. It's just... times were rough and even rougher now, and we needed everyone we could get. Even if it was a little... against your will. But listen here. I think Big Crimson just issued an order. It sounds like if you want to quit, hand in your Morpher, and we'll escort you out, no questions asked."

Soul nearly spit out her water upon hearing that revelation. This was the first bit of good news she'd heard since being forced into that lavender spandex outfit! She wouldn't have to deal with any of... this! Not anymore. Almost in a heartbeat, Soul started fumbling for her Morpher necklace... "Wait. That sounds a little too good to be true."

"Yeeeaaahhh... here's the catch. A lot of people have already become Ex-Riders, from the looks of things. So we're more short-handed than ever. It seems like we're down to me, Big Crimson, Green, Purple, Carmine, Platinum, Amber, and Transparent. And maybe you." Ray usually would've used names, but he wasn't sure Soul was super acquainted with any of those people. He paused for a few seconds, removing the sunglasses from his face. "So yeah. Not a lot of people there, and we still need all the people we can get..."

"So... I'm going to die either way?"

"...Kinda sounds that way, doesn't it? Keep going and die in battle, or leave and die because we don't have enough people. I'm sure I don't need to sugarcoat it. There's no way of knowing, and that's why this is such a big decision for you. And honestly, if it weren't for me, you wouldn't even be in this little Catch 22. I'm realizing now that drafting someone like you in here was one of the biggest mistakes I've made in my entire life. Especially someone young like you... How old did you say you were again?"

Soul shot him another glare before giving him her terse response. "...Sixteen..."

Ray gave a somber, empty chuckle. "Yeeeeaaaahhhh... I shouldn't have done this. I could never have made a choice like this at sixteen. No matter what anyone says, and no matter what you decide, you're strong. If you decide you want out, I'd completely understand. We can go on like we never met each other. Though if you decide to keep with us, and if we make it through, I'll do everything in my power to make everything up to you. I've wronged you in a way that, honestly, I'm not sure I can repay. But dang it, I'm gonna try anyway... Because...!"

Ray put his shades back on his face and grinned, his teeth sparkling in the fluorescent lighting of the Medical Bay. "Because that's what cool guys do!"

"Attention... humans."

As if on cue, a message started ringing through the hallways. Faintly, but Ray could still hear it. "Hmm. Sounds like that's my cue to leave. Mull it over, drink plenty, and while you're down here in the medbay, be sure to take the most amazing nap you've ever had, you got that?!" Ray put his helmet back on, and rushed outside.

Justice HQ - Main Hall:

Ray rushed out, already decked out in his fuchsia outfit. "Alright, chief! I'm here! Amethyst is all nice and in the medbay! What do we-" It seemed like a plan had already come together... or at least, the start of one. And it involved the Zords! Sweet! He did have one, after all! SWEET! If he was finally going to get to pilot one of those, he didn't need to be told twice!

"Zord Hangar?! You got it! Come on! You all heard the boss! Let's MOVE OUT!" Ray, enthusiastic as ever, dashed out toward the Zord Hangar.

"... And so it begins. I suppose there's no time to call for a mid-show distraction, is there? Every player needs to fulfill their roles now..." Charlotte's words weren't serious, but it was clear that her tone was. She was strangely calm despite everything that was happening. Maybe the very real possibility that she could die just hadn't dawned on her yet. Or maybe it had dawned on her and she was just incapable of taking the situation with the proper amount of seriousness. Either way, it was obvious that she needed to help out. The chance to run had passed, and besides, running away would have felt anti-climactic right now. Not when she had something to do.

So. The Zord Hangar it was.

"Well, I certainly don't want to fall behind. Best be on my way!" Charlotte then started running towards the Zord Hangar, very aware of the fact that she didn't have that much more time to spend on quips and non-sequiturs.

Raphael couldn't help but wince at Charlotte's words. This is not the time for such worthless remar-- Charlotte? Raphael blinked and looked again. There she was. The liability was one of those who had remained. On the one hand, he was somewhat impressed. He would have expected her to have fled by now and gone on some kind of motorcycle rampage. On the other... he knew it would have been better if she had.

Before he could inner monologue on this, Kenshin snatched Raphael's attention away. Right, prioritie-- And then the video. By this point, the ever-changing demands on his attention had dulled his capacity for emotional response. It was all instinct, and his instincts were to be alert and to process this information when things were a bit less hectic. So when Wakana and Kenshin came to the conclusion that Prim had to have been trustworthy, Raphael simply nodded along. I didn't expect that, but I guess their logic holds. Had he more time, he would have at least raised the possibility of this being an elaborate trap, but had he more time, his mind would not be in quite the place it was.

On Kenshin's command, Raphael went off to the Zord Hangar, his mind (for a brief moment) perhaps unscrambled enough to actually process some of this. Or perhaps just ready to bounce into the next person.

Ami nods, going over scenarios in her head. She moved over to her zord, and entered the cockpit. As she moved outside with it, she then awaited further orders. She could be clever, but now seemed like a time to wait to see what Kenshin had planned.
