Kenshin chuckled nervously at Ray's enthusiasm. "Well...so long as there's some energy being put to good use..." Then, he turned to Raphael. "I'm unsure. As worried as I am for Hayate...Gohra might not be a significant enough threat for us to focus all our energy on him. He's not likely to shift focus from a one-on-one duel, given his personality...and we need to focus on a plan to stop this missile hreat, first and foremost. We...may just have to trust Hayate on this one."
He turned towards Wakana. "That said, I want a visual of the battle. We don't know the circumstances, and I don't want to risk shifting attention unless we know Hayate has it handled. Any progress on picking up video feed of the beach, yet, Waka...?"
Wakana suddenly went silent.
"Y-You..." She looked over to Kenshin and the other Riders with a shocked expression on her face. "You might want to see this."
Wakana turned the computer monitor towards the Riders. It didn't show Hayate and Gohra's battle as one might expect, thought. Instead....
The face of Dexis Zebanon, head scientist of the Kalcion Armada, was on the screen of the Justice HQ. But not just there. The image of the man was seen across the city of Kyoto, on nearly every Kalcion HoverCam floating about the battlefield. He even appeared on a number of large screens on the sides of city buildings. His face and his message were everywhere."You have been a thorn in the sides of our people for far too long. You and your supposed heroes, the soldiers that refer to themselves as the Justice Riders. I do hope you have placed good faith in those soldiers, because their failure now means your extermination. I am not a patient enough man to delay my message further, however. This is a challenge for the Justice Riders. Your city will be destroyed by the almighty Kalcion, should you fail to overcome this challenge."
The people still desperately trying to escape the city began to panic even more as the words of Dexis Zebanon echoed through the streets."We have just commenced the firing sequence on an array of our planets mightiest air-born missiles, humans. Should they impact your city, it will surely be destroyed...and those people still within it shall surely perish. But do not fret. Your situation is not entirely devoid of hope, Justice Riders. But these missiles are designed to destroy technology even of our own caliber. And it seems the only technology you have with a hope to stop this strike...is that of the mechs you scrapped together from that which you stole from us. I do hope your species s evolved enough to understand my implications, humans."
Dexis rose his head in the video, to glare down at the camera with...a look of disdain and disgust that seemed almost uncharacteristic of the cold man he had come across as."Fight and perish or let your people die like vermin. Do not disappoint me now, Justice Riders. The launch sequence is now beginning."
The video message paused on the monitor, locking it to that screen. Kenshin slammed his fist onto the table.
"They're already commencing the attack, then...dammit, our early intel barely made a difference!"
"Kenshin, get a hold of yourself!" Wakana shouted back. "And stop swearing in front of Rin! Look, I know it looks bad, but there's something about that message that felt really off to me." She put her finger to her temple. "Think about it. He just gave us a warning for when the attack is going to happen. And furthermore, he broadcast it - most likely to more than just the computer his daughter bugged, given his language. What does that all mean, then?"
GiGi chimed in. "T-That means he broadcast it to the entire city, doesn't it?"
"More than that," Razzmatazz added. "Those weird floaty TVs looked like they were broadcasting a news channel. I'd bet you anything that footage is making rounds on their home planet, too. They're showboating."
"Correct!" Wakana said with a snap. "He's likely doing it for show, but it's odd that he'd show that to us, as well, instead of just keeping us in the dark. And he acted like this was news to us - he was dimly lit and acting all intimidating, so I bet he expects us to be cowering in our boots at this revelation. What does that mean?"
"It means," Kenshin replied, "that he doesn't know info was leaked."
Wakana snapped again, now with a smirk. "Correct. It's looking like our little insider was telling the truth. They're probably showing off to their people to make the military look all badass like that spy said, and they're probably none the wiser that there's a spy on our side. We don't have an exact plan in place yet, sure, but I don't think we're at a wash yet. He said he's firing now, but I'm willing to bet we have a couple minutes to prep while his little vlog is circulating on the news." She slammed her hands on the desk. "It's now or never!"
Kenshin nodded. "Right. We only have these precious few minutes to work on a plan..." He thought silently for a moment. "Everyone, get yourself and any able-bodied Riders to a Zord!"
GiGi tried to interject. "B-But Kenshin, that's exactly what-"
"We need to move immediately," Kenshin interrupted. "I'm not saying we should give up and fall for their plot, but there's not much we can doo outside of the Zords right now. He's expecting us to panic, but we already know what he's going to do, so we can get an upper hand on him. We'll just have to work through the rest of our plan once we're properly armed." He grit his teeth. "It's a shaky plan, I know. Like I said, I'm not the best at this. But we're low on options, and we have to do what we can. If we're down to our last options...we'll have to at least minimalize the casualties as best as we can."
He gestured to the rest of the Riders again. "Go! Head to the Zord Hangars and get out of here ASAP! I'll meet you on the outside! Our backs may be against the wall, but we'll kick and struggle to the very end!"
Gohra chuckled as he kept pushing his fist against Hayate's grip. "Beh heh heh...Catch and dodge all you can, and strike as hard as you will, but you know I won't stop that easily! Even as I stare death in the eyes, I feel more alive than ever right now! I'm not going to stop fighting until the last second...!"
As the two stood there, the sound of an elderly voice echoed from the distance. The sound of the video message was just barely loud enough to be heard as a faint whisper from that beach. Gohra, still pushing against his opponent, took a moment to listen to the noise. "Heh...coming from the city, sounds like. I guess Old Man Zebanon is finally starting to push his plan forward. Figured he'd be behind this scheme...the man's as dishonorable as they come. He'd have this planet wiped clean by now if Prince Malchior hadn't pushed against it for so long...Oh well. It does not matter now!"
Gohra suddenly shoved back and jumped away from Hayate, returning to a combat prep stance. "So the countdown to the sunset apocalypse has nearly reached its climax!" he shouted. He glanced back towards the city, and spotted something...a lone HoverCam, glaring at the two of them, at the edge of the beach. "Little spy, eh...?" He chuckled again, ignoring it before turning back towards Hayate. "We've got five minutes tops! So tell me, Hayate Kawaguchi..." He grinned. "How fun are these last five minutes going to be?"
