Fire Emblem Series

Post by Holhol »

Hello! :P

Um, this is basically a discussion for the Fire Emblem series. If you don't know what it is, you need to know.
And well...um...so like, in the game, if you don't know what a strategy game is, it's basically like, you take turns. You control a bunch of character units, and move them across like a field of...stuff. You have to use these units to battle enemy units, which are computer-controlled players. Each map has a different objective like Rout (kill all enemies), Seize (commander of the army has to step on a certain panel of the map and select "Seize" to end the chapter), Escape (basically like Seize, except any unit can escape first, but the commander has to escape before truly clearing the map), Defeat Boss (self-explanatory, just beat up the commander of the other army), Defend (defend a spot on the map for a given amount of turns), and maybe some others that I can't quite remember right now. I guess it's sorta like chess...in a way.

It looks rather boring by glance, but in my opinion, it's fun to actually play. Also, another thing: if one of your unit dies, you'll lose them forever and never get them back. The main character/commander/important plot character dying, however, will result in a game over. Personally, I always restart teh game when any units die, no matter how little I use them, cuz it goes on your endgame record when the credits roll...I'm a perfectionist of sorts.
All I have is Radiant Dawn, but I'm planning on getting Shadow Dragon and Path of Radiance.

So... um... discuss Fire Emblem! :awesome:

Played everything from 4 - 11.

Radiant Dawn was rather different compared to the other games.

You have more than one group. I think it's better to start out with a small, weak group which is steadily growing over the course of the adventure. in Radiant Dawn, this is just true for the first few mission. The it switches around to other groups which are already leveled up. >_>

The result was that you got most characters without really doing anything for it. There were, like, only 2 or 3 you actually could recruit during missions.

And most of them are that strong that you didn't even have to train anyone. *cough*laguzkings*cough*

No, I really didn't like that you've got most of the characters thrown at you just like that.
You actually had to think who might be able to recruit them in most of the other games. (and some of them are really tricky to get.)

Aside from that, it's stil a great game with an epic plot. But don't train Meg, it's not worth it. Train Nolan. :awesome:

Only played Shadow Dragon. It was AMAZING, and I have more playtime logged on that than any other DS game with the possible exception of Tetris. Though the requirements for entering sidequest chapters are stupid- basically, you need to have X units or less alive by the end of a certain chapter, so if you go for it you will have a maximum of about 16 or 17 characters alive at the end. The end credits sequence just looks like a mass funeral. Still, it's a great game despite several minor flaws and is addicting as anything. Challenging, too- the last mission is just intense.

Lemme think. I only own Shadow Dragon, but I've played (and beaten) Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones. And then I've only played Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn, Sealed Sword, and (I think) Thracia.

I played 7 GBA, Path of Radiance, and Shadow Dragon DS. 7 GBA was still my favorite, honestly. I still don't think any of them have surpassed it.

What are you favorite types of units? I like Assassins and Druids more than any of the other classes. Assassins are just awesome no matter how you cut it, and Druids are like sadistic tank-mages. RPGs these days, it's always so hard to find a mage with significant defensive power!

That Canas. xD (Druids aren't that tanky in every game, though.)

7 is my favorite as well. Best story and so many secrets. Not sure how many times I've played through it.

No real preferences regarding the classes. Most of them can be great if used correctly.
I guess I especially like sword masters, generals, berserkers, bishops and valkyries.
The latter 3 because they're usually hard to get.(especially valkyries xD)

Sacred Stones is my favorite.

My top 5: Assassin, 'Zerker, General, Summoner, Rogue (in no particular order).

I've played Sword of Seals, Blazing Sword, Sacred Stones, and have yet to finish Radiant Dawn and Shadow Dragon.

No matter what happens, Blazing Sword will be my number one. I didn't like Sacred Stones too much, to be honest. Sword of Seals was HELL compared to Blazing Sword. My usual FE7 strategy doesn't work most of the time... And Radiant Dawn is also hell. OMG

I prefer assassins, sages (Can turn into archsage on Sacred Stones with a cheating mechanism :awesome: ), berserkers, and myrmidons. Favorite Lords? Lyn, Hector, Roy, and Ike.

Fire Emblem's awesome, there's just certain moments that really get to me though.

Like in path of radiance, first time I played this one stage,I put my lord (Ike) in the middle of the field, and the black knight comes out of nowhere to slay him. That sucked! Lol.

Other than that, I love everything else. In sacred stones, I depend on my Berzerker Ross for everything XD

It feels so good to be playing Sword of seals in a translated patch.
+saving before going to the arena, & if the person dies, I load from the save point to try again XD
