HIGURASHI NO NAKU KORONI
This is the topic for all discussion of Higurashi including the anime and manga, as well as the original sound novel.
Spoiler : Basic Summary :
In the year 1983 Maebara Keichi moves to the quiet little town of Hinamizawa. While there, he discovers the series of mysterious deaths on the night of the Watanagashi. One person dies and another disappears, every year without fail. Who will be the victim(s) this year?

And what is at the heart of these cases? Human conspiracy? Coincidence? Curse? Or something much more sinister?

In a world where even the most innocent girl can snap and attack you with a cleaver, what is the real explanation behind everything?

I should go play this after I finish Umineko.

(Also, it's naku and koro ni.)

Huh. That's strange. Then that means the name is different for Umineko? O.o

It's not.

It's Higurashi no naku koro ni. (It's all a part of the "When They Cry" series, so no, it really shouldn't be different.)

...

P. S.

The solution su- *shot*

Higurashi was the one series I never really got into. I never had the feeling that the next time loop added anything to the previous one as they made just no progress at all (in the question arcs). People advertised Higurashi to me as mystery and said I'd have to find all the clues what happened but... just how are you supposed to figure THAT SOLUTION on your own? ...They even made fun of it in Umineko... That being said I still liked the answer arcs better because at least there was some overarching story, even if the solutions were ridiculous.

Well it was a mystery.
Spoiler : :
Not a fair one you could solve, but things made "sense" once you knew the solution.
I can't help but find the OP to Higurashi Kira hilarious if compared to the others. Something certainly seems... different there. xD

Huh? When did Umineko make fun of it? Maybe I missed that or maybe I just haven't seen it yet?

Well, there were a lot of references. Such as Bern threatening to reveal the killer to Lambda.

I think the best option is "Higurashi is too cliche. You should watch Twilight instead." :3

I personally love the anime as one of my most favorite animes ever. :D

Although, I didn't even know they had a game. I need to try it out!

So, I just got started with this yesterday. I've been told that it starts reaaaalllly slow, but it builds up and gets extremely good.
Spoiler : :
After finishing the first part of the Question Arc, I see what they were talking about. The excessive exposition and characterization filler made the latter half much more enjoyable. However... I jump into the second part, and now it's back to the side-story filler!
It's enjoyable, but I came for the mystery/thriller aspect, not the cutesy schoolgirl stories. :P

The creepy atmosphere in the latter half of the first part was scarier than any horror game I've ever played. Rena's stare
EDIT: Finished the second question arc. Random theories:
Spoiler : :
1. The murders are entirely human. No curse or supernatural beings are involved. The "demon" side of the characters is just a split personality that they've developed from past traumas + the legends of Hinamizawa.
2. The weird dilated pupils that some characters gain when they switch to their "serious/evil" mode is just Keiichi hallucinating because he is under extreme pressure and is very paranoid.
3. The killings have some ulterior motive; Oyashiro-sama is just being used as a decoy to deter from the true reason for the murders.
4. The mastermind behind it all is... Tomitake. He was the escaped ringleader from the lynch killing and purposefully sets other unfortunate events into motion by telling the story of the dam and Oyashiro-sama to Keiichi. He is found out though (at least in the first two arcs I've read) and is injected with an unknown drug by Rika. I'm not sure why he would be trying to wreck havoc in Hinamizawa though...
Yet another EDIT:

I finished all the question arcs... but I accidentally was spoiled when I was looking up the name of the first answer arc...
Screw this, I'm gonna start Umineko until I magically forget who the culprit was...
