Why do you think that, Topaz? You're more likely to be interviewed than you think.Topaz wrote:Well, hopefully I get the one when they run out of members .

Re: Member of the Month: June 2010
Well, since you speak French Daniel, I'd recommend you the site I previously mentioned, the Site du Zéro. They have great tutorials for PHP and C programming, among others, and the basic principle there is that you don't need any particular knowledge before starting, everything is taught "from Zero" (hence the name of the site )Danielinhoni wrote:I want to start learning programming and scripting, but i don't know where to start...
Any tips or advices?
For learning the basics of programming, I'd advise you to start with the PHP tutorial, since PHP is probably the simplest language I know. That because PHP manages plenty of things by itself that you would have to worry about in other languages. For example, the type of variables : in most languages, a character string isn't the same as an integer number, which isn't the same as a floating point number. PHP manages conversions between those automatically so that you almost never have to worry about type - it just works
As a result, PHP is a little messier than other languages, but I think it's great as a start, to learn the basic structures of programming without some of its annoying details.
Well, it's more a matter of how it's taught, I guess. Since it is quite a mess (paradoxically, it's because of it's simplicity : since it does many things behind your back to make things simpler, it can sometimes do something else than what you expected), you'd have to find a particularly clear tutorial to learn. Unfortunately, I don't have a good one in English to recommend you at the moment, sorry, but it it probably exists somewhere. I doubt that Mathieu Nebra (the founder of the SdZ) would be the only guy on earth capable of writing a good tutorial, as excellent as he isMeph wrote:To this day, I've always found PHP to be difficult.
Don't worry about this. Contributions to the community aren't limited to concrete things. You're a quite active and dynamic member around here, so you have your chancesTopaz wrote:I'd so like to be MotM. If only I COULD contribute. I'm not too good at things like programming and Graphical Design.

Maybe I'm a bit TOO active, though. Ah, whatever, AAO is awesome, this is the second longest time I've been active (or stayed on) a forum.

You can't be too active. You're just being under-confident.
