Tutorial: How to make a witness sprite w/GIMP and Paint.NET

Message par FenrirDarkWolf » Sam Nov 13, 2010 7:59 am

I made this for people who wish to go to court, but have no witness sprite for it.
MAKING IT FROM SCRATCH!
First off create a 128 by 128 canvas.
Spoiler : :

Add transparency, if not already done, and cut the background.
Spoiler : :

Begin with the original sprite from the game.
Spoiler : :
Image

Create outline and add base color while looking at a reference sprite.
Spoiler : :
Image(It's white so you guys could see the outline, you can cut it out later Image

Add shading, lines and details.

The result!

MAKING IT BY USING A BASE!
First, take your base you'll use, I used Chris.
Spoiler : :

Open the game's sprite.
Spoiler : :

Color the shades accordingly from colors from the game sprite to the witness sprite. Tip:Turn tolerance to zero.
Spoiler : :
ImageImage

If the sprite does not have a neck, add a neck from another sprite, or free-draw it, I used Hobo Nick's neck.
Spoiler : :

Remove extra pixels and and recolor hair if hair is on clothes.(Pixels in red will be removed.)
Spoiler : :
ImageImage

If not done so finish recoloring clothes.
Spoiler : :
Image

Change the head and fill with the base color.
Spoiler : :
Image

Remove any extra pixels if necessary, and shade accordingly, remember details, especially for hats and hair, do not need to be perfect, just close enough so it cannot be told apart for the original.
Spoiler : :

The finished result.

It looks off proportioned. Compare it to other witness sprites for size references.

You're on the right track, Diego, but you just need to clean it up. Like gotMLK7 said, the sprite is disproportionate compared to other CRO sprites. Also, instead of just explaining "create an outline and colour it in", refer to example CRO sprites and have many screenshots showing the process. Also, make sure you cut the screenshots so they don't take forever to load.

Refer to Singidava, Hikari Yamija and gotMLK7's tutorials for good examples in presentation. =D

*feels inadequate*

But in all seriousness, lol, Tap is right. It needs more steps in explanation. Also, it would help if
when you used print screen, you cut out the relevant parts and just showed us that, keeping
the pictures small and not full of your entire screen.

Great job in fixing it up but it still needs to be cleaned up a bit. This is all you need to fix and then I'll add it into the list.

The result, it looks off, I know.

If yours looks off, then no doubt any readers might have the assumption their's will turn out the same way. You need to create a good example to demonstrate your tutorial works. Otherwise... ;)
