Tutorial: How to make efficient screenshots of your case

Post by Broocevelt »

Screenshots of the AAO Player
Tired of those irregular screenshots that make your thread look messy?
All you need is...
  • Microsoft Paint
  • The frames you want to make screenshots of
  • A browser compatible with AAO
1) Take the screen capture
· Open up your trial in your browser, and reach the frame you want to take a screenshot of. Now, make sure the upper screen is clearly visible on the screen. Press now the PrtScr key (Or Print Screen). This key is located to the right of the F12 key on your keyboard. This will copy what is currently being displayed on your screen as an image, but won't be saved in any file.
· Open now Microsoft Paint and a new file, and click Edit > Paste. You will now see the content of your screen in Microsoft Paint.

2) Preparing the cropping
· Our objective now is to select only this section:
Spoiler : Red Section :
Image
If you want to make it easier, use the selection tool and select the rectangle that is only shown in the image above. Then use the Copy tool (Or Ctrl+C), and Paste it on a new image. Now, we are going to use the Zoom tool (Magnifying glass icon) to zoom the image x6, and display the Top-Left
· Select the whole image by pressing Ctrl+E (Or Edit > Select All). If you hover your image you will now see the icon of 4 arrows instead of your mouse icon, this means you can drag the entire image now by holding the left mouse button.
· Drag the image to the top-left (the visible corner of your image), until the upper-left corner of the area in the previous image is visible.
Spoiler : The edges are going to match :
Image
· Now you have to be careful: Keep dragging the image until the corner of your screenshot matches the corner of the entire image. (If you have trouble distinguishing the white and the grey colour, you can solve it by using the paint bucket tool on the white area)
Spoiler : To make things easier :

3) Cropping your image
· Now that the top-left of your screenshot has been dealt with, you should have something like this:
Spoiler : This is what we have now :
Image
· The green corner indicates the corner of our current image, and the red corner indicates where we want to crop the image now. This step is the easiest step: AAO screenshots are 262x198 px (Unlike the DS screen which is 256x192 px). We can directly crop the image to that size by pressing Crtl+U: This will show us the properties of our image.
· You can now see the length and the height of your image in two different fields. (Make sure you have ticked the "Pixels" field below) In the first field, we are going to change the length to 262, and in the second field we will change the height to 198.
· Now that we have change these settings, we can confirm them on the top left of the window, and Save our image. And there you have your new screenshot!
Image
Note: You can change the colour of the border with the Paint Bucket tool

Not really, it's better if there is an outline, images without outlines such as screenshots, avatars and signatures are ugly in forums :april: Also if you present lots of screenshots in a spoiler tag, it looks better if they are seperated by an outline.

I agree that screenshots should have a border, but certainly not that gray... And not all images would look ugly without a border... Transparent images like my avatar would look weird with it.

But rectangular images would need a border ;)
And I don't think this grey looks too bad, are you saying the AAO player looks bad? :calisto:

It looks good in the player because its not suppose to grab attention. Outside the player, it should be darker or not there at all, imo.

I'm gonna add a small point at the end of the tutorial then, check it out now! ;)
(Let me check though because maybe it's not a solid colour)
Edit: (Ah it is, it will work then :) )
