[RP] Town of the Extraordinary (RP Start!)

TOWN OF THE EXTRAORDINARY

THE STORY

Welcome to Proprius, a modest city on the west coast of the United States of America. On the outside, it may not seem to be too conspicuous; a metropolitan town with plenty to do, a diverse population, and some nice views. But Proprius harbors a secret that most do not know.

It has the highest density population of super-powered beings in the world.

Those with superpowers, called "metahumans" by the government but "Supers" by the majority, cropped up at an unknown time in history. Nobody knows what caused them or how many of them exist, but the population has never been very large; they're expected to be less than 1% of the Earth's population, but even today, much remains a mystery about them. They've been public knowledge for less than a century, and the government isn't entirely sure how to handle them. The world has met these Supers with mixed reception; they've been scorned, praised, ignored, even called a hoax. Some believe they're too dangerous to leave free, and others believe they're the hope for the future. Most Supers are in hiding; most governments ban public abuse of power, and there's little protective laws for them, so it's generally seen as wise to not reveal one's self as a Super haphazardly. Some have taken to mimicking the world of comics and taking on costumes and names and fighting crime as superheroes, some of which even work for the government, like Proprius' own Volt Maxim and Double Vision. Some work as vigilantes. And a few dangerous ones have decided to devote themselves to more nefarious deeds, abusing their powers as what many refer to as "supervillains". The life of a Super is not as easy as it may seem.

Whether it be by some twist of fate or some grand scheme, Proprius unwittingly hosts more metahumans than anywhere else on Earth. This includes the local public heroes, Volt Maxim and Double Vision, but there are more out there in hiding. This includes the mysterious men referred to as Null and Dr. Malus, and the struggle of power between them gone largely unseen by the population at large...

You are a Super living in the unassuming town of Proprius. Whether you decide to hide your powers, to use them, to abuse them...that is up to you.

THE CONCEPT

Town of the Extraordinary is a roleplay inspired by western superheroes, such as those of DC and Marvel Comics, and superhero media such as the film "Sky High" and the anime "My Hero Academia". It is a reboot of a roleplay I created way back in 2011, my second ever. Many aspects of that original roleplay will be featured in this iteration, such as some terms and characters, but it will have no continuity with the old RP and will be built from the ground up, so do not worry about needing prior information. The concept is simple: you have superpowers, and you're in a city filled with other people with superpowers. What happens from there will be up to you.

Options given to you will include potentially building a secret identity and becoming a public superhero with a costume (even becoming official with the town government), turning rogue and becoming a supervillain, remaining neutral as a vigilante, or just being a normal person doing normal things but you just happen to have superpowers. There will be NPCs that can help you with these decisions, most importantly the superhero leader Null and the supervillain leader and main antagonist Dr. Malus. I'd like a rather balanced tone between a serious action RP and a fun slice of life RP, so feel free to use your freedom well and try to not skew the entire RP in a particular direction.

POWERS

Here's some important things to know about how superpowers will work in Town of the Extraordinary:
-They are genetic. Characters are born with them, and they're very internalized; if you want to have a manipulation power, for example, it should make sense as a peculiar bodily function your character has.
-They can be passed through the family. Powers are a very recessive trait that nobody knows how they got into people in the first place, and superpowered children can be born to families that have never had superpowers before. However, having a superpowered parent is more likely to result in children with superpowers, and having two superpowered parents is even more likely than that.
-There is no known way to grant or permanently remove powers. While technology can simulate superpowers, and while they can be suppressed to a degree, there's no known way to artificially do so as a permanent measure.
-They can manifest at any time. Some Supers can use their powers at birth, some don't learn of their powers until adulthood. There's no scientific way discovered to pinpoint this yet, and it just seems to be based on the power and the person on when they start to really take effect.
-They should be balanced. From a meta perspective, it's important to have powers have some sort of gameplay balance to prevent overpowered characters (important NPCs aside). Drawbacks to powers are common, and stronger ones often strain the body. If you have a power that can be abused, try to keep balancing in mind.

Here is a list of BANNED POWERS in the RP. Subject for change and some exceptions may be made based on the nature of NPCs or specific functions of particular powers. Expect updates as situations arise.
-Reality-Bending: Powers that involve manipulation of reality that forces major change to how the world works are too powerful and do not make much sense to the setting. This largely includes manipulation of space, time, and dimensions. Powers related to stopping/slowing/speeding time, reshaping the laws of the world, hopping dimensions, etc. are not to be included in the RP.
-Power-Stealing: Power-copying and power-blocking are viable, but stealing powers from other RPers is banned.
-Petrification: Powers that involve freezing characters against their will for excessive time, such as the stone glare of Medusa, are banned for forcing RPers into a state where they physically can not do anything.
-"One Punch Man": This should be rather obvious, but let it be stated that any power that basically kills an opponent instantly (like Saitama from the anime One Punch Man) is banned.

THE CITY OF PROPRIUS

Proprius is, as stated before, a mostly metropolitan city. It's not very large as far as those go, and it's mostly characterized by the presence of two notable public superheroes, Volt Maxim and Double Vision. The city itself, being a city, has a lot of notable locations in it, most of which will be decided as the RP continues. There's no official map of the city as of yet, but here's a list of notable locations as of now;
-City Square (center of the city, lot of big buildings and shops nearby, large empty space in a very public area)
-Icington Bakery (A humble little bakery not far from the square. Workplace of Barry Bonum.)
-The Wayne and Kent's (A small but fancy bar across the street from Icington's. Workplace of Dorothy Bonum.)
-Proelio Tower (The tallest building in Proprius.)
-Proprius High Security Prison (Local jail, only prison in the city with good enough security means to handle jailing Supers.)
-Bean Lately Coffee Shop
-Maiko's Thai Sushi Bar
-Sawbone Clinic
-Court House
-Hospital
-Arcade
-Cemetery
-Motel

Some are just carried over from the old RP for convenience. Feel free to not feel limited by anything here, and flesh out the city as you go.

GAMEPLAY AND RULES

Gameplay will be typical of my standard RPs. You're free-range to do as you like, but there will be notable plot points and events you can partake in. Structure is expected to be loose with time for slice of life interaction about the town or action-packed fight scenes.

Important: Although this is a superhero RP, you are not required to have a superhero/supervillain persona or costume. You may do so at your own leisure, or even officially join the government or a faction to become a public Super and receive one, but it is not a requirement and the details regarding this will be featured in a separate optional app that you do not need to have filled out upon initial sign-up, or ever.

Rules (Subject to update):
-No invincible players. You don't have to die the first time you get shot, but don't just brush off getting nuked.
-No spamming. You can have short posts, but keep them one at a time and try to keep it substantial.
-Keep battles fair. Don't just kill a guy in one shot, and don't make your character from a dimension of demigods or anything.
-Post OOC in spoilers once the game has begun.
-Wait for GM acceptance of your app before posting.
-The current maximum is THREE CHARACTERS per player.
-NPCs are permitted for plot purposes, but do not take control of another's NPC without permission.
-Clearly note your location when switching scenes.
-Over-the-topness and cheesiness is allowed and encouraged as long as it does not go into god-mod territory.
-Keep 4th-wall breaking to a reasonable amount based on the tone the RP takes.
-Don't steal a scene or bend the tone to your own whim if the other players don't want it.
-No AUs of real or copyrighted characters; OCs only.
-No killing characters without the permission of the ones controlling them. This also applies to specific powers.
-No mass destruction, death, or other major impacting phenomenon without GM permission; they may mess with plans if poorly timed.
-Read GD's Roleplaying guide for reference.

IMPORTANT NPCs

Here's some important GM-controlled characters in the RP. They may play specific roles in the plot or be there as means of helping interaction. Subject to update.
Spoiler : NPCs :
Image
Volt Maxim: The most famous superhero in Proprius, Volt Maxim is a public hero. He stops crimes and fights rogue Supers for the good of the population. He is a strong and brave superhero, though he's more than a little cheesy at times. He's the biggest public figure in town in regards to superheroes, and is the one with the best reception.
Power: Electromancy: His electric powers allow him to travel across power lines, shoot bolts of electricity, harness electric power, and more, though it is said he frequently needs to recharge his energy through a power source.
Identity: ???
Age: ???

Image
Double Vision: Another public superhero that often works with Volt Maxim. She seems to be more of the strategist between the two, and puts less focus on playing the heroic role as she does getting the job done efficiently. She's not as popular as her partner, but she has earned similar respect.
Power: Contact Cloning: She can clone herself to a degree; her clones cannot break contact with one another, but there's not much limit to how many she can summon. She can also create "partial clones" from her body, meaning parts of clones such as arms, legs, heads etc. can sprout from her body with full functionality. once a clone is destroyed or loses contact with the main body (or other clones connected to the main body), it vanishes.
Identity: ???
Age: ???

Image
Null: A Super that is unknown to the general public. Little is known of him, and most have never even heard of him. It's said he is amassing Supers willing to fight as heroes, but as he seems to operate from the shadows, he's only likely to appear to those that he seeks...
Power: ???
Identity: ???
Age: ???

Image
Dr. Malus: The main antagonist. Dr. Malus is a bizarre man in a very proper suit who often carries around an umbrella. He is a man of fine taste, but also a man of chaos. The law has had its run-ins with this supervillain, and he seems to have pulled the strings on at least a few smaller attacks. He's a sadist and an anarchist who, for reasons unknown, seems intent on bringing the city to its knees. He's powerful enough to have escaped capture for a while now, and his name is starting to become publicly known, not too common for a supervillain. He takes others under his wing and seems to be against the public superheroes. Whatever this man seeks with his shark-toothed grin and sharp tongue, it cannot be good.
Power: Matter Conversion?: Not much of Malus' power has been seen by the public, but he seems to be able to break down physical matter through direct or indirect touch and convert it to some form of manipulatable energy. Further research required.
Identity: Victor J. Malus: Records show Malus doesn't use a pseudonym, though not much is known about his normal life aside from him having a PhD in psychology.
Age: 37

Image
Barry Bonum: An inconspicuous baker working at Icington Bakery. A bit of a goofball despite his size, and he likes to comb his hair and do something with batteries. His sister, Dorothy, works across the street.
Power: ???
Identity: ???
Age: 25

Image
Dorothy Bonum: Goes by "Dory". An inconspicuous bartender working at Wayne and Kent's. Level-headed and skilled at her job, she's considered a very reliable person. Her brother, Barry, works across the street.
Power: ???
Identity: ???
Age: 26

Q&A

Important questions and answers that may help players in the RP. Some involve lore, story, and gameplay. Will be updated over time as needed.
Spoiler : Q&A :
Q: How do the superpowers originate?
A: Unknown source, and nobody knows when they started. They were discovered in the past century by the public and they seem to be genetic.

Q: How did the government find out the existence of superpowers?
A: Currently undecided; investigations did lead to knowledge of their existence, but I will return to you on the inciting incident once I decide its relevance.

Q: How common are superpowered individuals?
A: They are thought to be significantly less than 1% of the world's population, though a full census is unknown to due many hiding the fact they're a Super. Proprius has the highest density of Supers on Earth, but this fact is not known to the public (aka it's meta knowledge), and it may just be coincidence.

Q: Assuming the superpowers aren't passive, how does one "activate" them?
A: Superpowers can be activated in a variety of ways. There's no widespread scientific method of discovering them at birth, and it's possible for them to fully manifest at any point in one's life cycle, from as early as infancy to as late as adulthood. "Activating" them varies based largely on the power and the amount of practice the Super has gone through with it.

Q: Do the superpowers have a specific limit? Is there any negative effects to the user?
A: Specific rules seem to be largely dependent on the powers and the Supers in question. Most don't have limited uses, though tiresome ones can exhaust users to a point that it becomes harmful. Many powers seem to have downsides of varying degrees, such as a need to recharge one's self. It is largely player-dependent. Meta: Downsides to powers should be considered in regards to balancing characters.

Q: Is there a cultural distinction between superheroes and supervillains, or is it just as simple as "who's trying to take over the world and who's trying to stop them?" Are there any morally ambiguous supers?
A: Heroes and villains are often based on media depiction. "Superheroes" are usually what government-hired Supers like Volt Maxim are, who actively try to fight crime and keep the city safe. "Supervillains" are usually referred to as the people that try to do what is depicted as bad by the majority, such as Dr. Malus. There are plenty of morally ambiguous Supers like vigilantes and just general people; the majority of the Super population is thought to just be blending in with society.

Q: What's the general public opinion towards people with superpowers?
A: Public opinion is mixed. They've been around long enough that they're mostly accepted as fact, though new enough that some still find it a hoax. Sometimes they're scorned as freaks and sometimes they're treated as saviors. It really depends on the people; overall they have people kinda uncomfortable and on edge.

Q: Is there any guaranteed way to test if someone is a super (like DNA test)?
A: As of yet, no.

Q: How common are alliances between super-powered individuals?
A: Varies. Proprius has two Supers, Null and Dr. Malus, that seem to be amassing teams, and the public Supers Volt Maxim and Double Vision are pretty clearly on a team. The rest is kinda dependent on individuals.

Q: How are comic books and the like in this world?
A: Comics mostly rose normally, and are about as popular as they are in reality, but there's more comics based on real superheroes and more non-hero comics.

Q: Are there regulations and stuff regarding those helping law enforcement?
A: Regulations are still loose in America/Proprius; there's no real defensive laws for Supers but abuse of powers can result in arrest and worse. Also for the record, there is no Registration Act in place as of yet; known Supers are filed as such but there's no real registry of them.

Q: Would the government-hired Supers like Volt Maxim have merchandise of them?
A: Public heroes may sign deals for merchandise but it's not too common. Volt might have a fair amount; Double Vision slightly less so.

Q: Is there an Arkham Asylum-type thing for superpowered criminals or do they just go in regular jail?
A: No official jail to send them to, but they go to the maximum security prison that can mostly handle them.

Q: Can we have weapons/guns?
A: Theoretically, but you'll be treated as a person carrying a weapon or a gun would be in public. The setting is a modern western metropolitan city, so I don't advise carrying a sword or a gun unless you have a very good reason to. A guy walking around with a gun isn't likely to get the best reception from the crowd.

Q: How well-known are the various Super characters by the public?
A: For player characters this varies based on your personal desires. For NPCs, Volt Maxim and Double Vision are both famous, mostly in Proprius but they're fairly known around the world. Null is completely unknown to the public, and only those informed of his existence (ie those recruited by him and those Malus informs of him) know of him. Dr. Malus's name and ability is recent public knowledge, but his appearance is mostly a mystery; only those that work under him or Null know what he looks like (as Null has shown his group images of the man). The average citizen wouldn't recognize him.

(Thank you to: Trybien, kwando1313, DLA, VGBM, and The Ash Raichu for supplying questions)

Spoiler : DerpSY :
Username:DSY
Character Name: Sara Hamara
Age: 17
Gender/Sex: Female
Appearance: Black Hair in twin tails, tied up with yellow ribbons. green eyes and freckles. Yellow hoodie with the words LOVE and PEACE! written on the front in tower like fashion(LOVE is on top, and is under it and PEACE is bellow and) a Peace sign in on the hood itself. Under the hoodie is a basic gray long sleeve T-shirt, but its hard to see without her taking the hoodie off. Black pants and tennis shoes.
Backstory: Sara's life was a tale of ups and downs while somehow going nowhere. As a young child she idolized Super Heroes, fantasying about herself as a super sleek and badass hero. However come the end of her childhood and the start of her teens Super Heroes started to sound ridiculous and even became annoying to her, and now in her highschool life... she has somehow become a vigilante hero. As a kid she used to hang out with other kids as in love with the super hero world as she was but grew distant from them over time, nowadays she's to shy to even talk to anyone, making her short on friends, as a hard time warming up to people and is very clingy to the few friends she's got. At some point her parents moved out of town and left her alone in an apartment with nothing but the stuff that doesn't leave and her annoying younger brother.
Personality: Sara is a rather shy type. Tending to keep to herself despite wanting to talk to others and wanting to help people. Being a super hero became her escape from responsibility and a way to help people without saying a word, which means its probably unhealthy for her long term. She's very protective of any friends she happens to come across through whatever means and is a bit of a worrier. Outwardly to the world she's cold, silent and not very interesting but when in a group is very animated. Altho sometimes when everything becomes to emotionally draining she closes in and shuts everyone out. She sometimes remarks that she's got the worst luck in the world.
Superpower: Sara can make something akin to a clone of herself to act out commands and then disappear. She issues the commands from her mind and a body double of sorts will act them out starting from wherever Sara is currently standing. Only one double can be crated at a time. The double is not a hologram and can pick things up or say punch someone or something. The double is also restricted by the laws of physics: IE: Cannot Fly, Cannot walk through walls, etc. but is also not alive hence: Cannot Die, Does not need air, etc. Sara cannot see through the eyes of a double. Doubles take on the appearance of Sara at the moment she creates them: Sara cannot be in street clothing and send out a double in Super hero garb. Double disappear almost instantly after completing their orders from Sara.
Miscellaneous: On top of her younger brother, Sara has an older sister, whom she is not very fond of. As far as she knows, Sara knows she is the only one in her family with super powers.

OPTIONAL: SECRET IDENTITY
Super Name: None
Super Appearance: Black Domino mask, black track suit. A very basic appearance.
Alliance: Works alone but that might change.
Miscellaneous: Nothing so far

Spoiler : Leon Oscar :
Username: gotMLK7

Character Name: Leon Oscar

Age: 22

Gender/Sex: Male

Appearance: Image
5'11" tall.

Backstory: Leon's powers manifested at a rather young age; when you're a pyromancer with anger issues, it isn't surprising that a playground argument can get "heated", so to speak. Nobody was quite sure what to do with the young spit-fire, so his parents mostly just tried to teach Leon to suppress his powers. They didn't hate him for his abilities, but they hoped he would find a normal life for himself, and they were worried he'd lose opportunities and hurt people if he let his powers get out of control.

Ergo, Leon spent most of his life trying his hardest to blend into society. This proved no easy feat. Even with training, his powers have a habit of flaring up during emotional instability, and he's had to lie, give excuses, and jump through hoop after hoop just to keep his life normal. His parents have helped in that regard, but that can only last so long.

Leon, now fresh out of college, is trying to get his foot out the door of life on his own. He's moved to Proprius and pays for his own apartment, and he's doing his best to keep his life calm and to keep himself employed. This is...not as easy as it may seem, really. With a business major under his belt but not much work experience to land a stable job, Leon's currently working odd jobs until he can figure out what he wants to do with his life. Of course, he didn't expect his new home to be filled with a Super conflict constantly threatening to break his plans for a peaceful life...

Personality: Leon is, as one might expect, a hot-head. He does his best to stay calm and is generally a fairly good guy if you get to know him, if a bit humorless, but his anger issues are dangerous. He's snappy in general at people, though not typically violent, but his fire powers can easily manifest when he gets pissed off...which is fairly common. He tries to deal with his sensitive stress whenever he can, but it's safe to say that nobody really wants to get on his bad side. He is a hard worker, though, and he wants to do his best at whatever he dedicates himself to. He'd also like more friends, as he's kind of a lonely guy due to how standoff-ish he can be; people tend to write him off as too moody or too angry. He's not a bad guy, he just isn't very patient. He also isn't very fond of public Supers, since he feels they undermine his and other Supers' efforts to stay hidden, but he's particularly annoyed at those that act as "villains" that give Supers an overall bad name.

Superpower: Pyromancy - Leon has control over fire. More specifically, he's able to super-heat his body to intense levels at will, and most of his body is highly flammable while still being resistant to damage from heat. To clarify, Leon's body and parts of it (bodily fluids like spit, sweat and blood or his hair) are able to ignite on whim, but is not harmed by fire (whether it's Leon who generates the fire or not). Leon cannot quite shoot fire from his hands, but he can set himself completely on fire and use other flammable substances as a means of combat. This does not come without drawbacks - it's a hard to control ability that sometimes flares up when he emotionally overworks himself, which is rather often. His body temperature is abnormally high even when he isn't flaring up, his sweat often turns to steam, and he has a bizarre affinity towards substances like gasoline.

Miscellaneous: He doesn't like cold stuff; they melt near him a lot, and the feel of cold liquid on his skin creeps him out. As a result, he can't swim.

Spoiler : Ashton Baxter :
Username: Trybien, but every time he posts the rp dies
Character Name: Ashton Baxter
Age: 37
Gender/Sex: Male
Appearance: Since Ashton currently has no home, he lacks any actual clothes besides the white t-shirt and jeans given to him during his release from prison. Also, since he sees no reason to not stay in his super persona, he is usually in his costume, only removing it to bathe or clean it. Under the costume is a man covered in scars head to toe. Roughly 5’8” and rather lanky, there is nothing about his build that is noteworthy. Furthermore, his baldness maintains a pristine roundness to his head. There is, however, a birthmark, which is a different colour than his scars, on his left shoulder blade of a waxing crescent moon.
Backstory: The life of Ashton baxter is a truly interesting one. Son of a religious middle class family, Ashton spent his childhood aspiring to make his parents proud. Graduating from high school, at the top of his class, Ashton had high expectations of him. While in college, he was picked up by Cyan Industries, a tech firm, as an intern and eventually a lead researcher. Praised by many as a genius, he eventually replaced the CEO who stepped down due to health issues. By time he was 30, Ashton was a well-known and respected name in the tech field; however, that came crashing to a halt on Christmas eve after his 31st birthday. Spending late nights at work was nothing new for Ashton as he had no wife and kids to return to, so driving home when it was nearly Christmas was no issue for Ashton; however, he was more tired than usual due to the day-long company meetings he attended. Dozing at the wheel, Ashton missed the red light in front of him, causing a massive traffic accident costing many lives and putting Ashton into the hospital for about a year. While recovering, he faced the legal ramifications of the accident since the board of Cyan Industries cut all ties with him to save public image of the company. Because he had enough money to hire a good enough lawyer to cut down his sentence. Feeling betrayed, Ashton slipped into a steep depression which stayed with him through a large portion of his time in jail, that was until he met a very interesting fellow who became his cellmate. This peculiar cell mate was always rather chipper despite being in prison, and this confused and intrigued Ashton leading to the two of them to spending many days just talking. The cellmate would tell Ashton about the meaningless of life and how he should not let the betrayal of some people ruin his life. “Rather than sulk”, the cellmate said, you should enjoy life to its fullest and help the world understand that as well.” During this time, Ashton also awakened to his power and the two of the experimented with it. Using it to sneak out so he could mess with guards and steal food, Ashton found a new appreciation for his life thanks to the guidance of his cell mate. Now with his sentence served completely, Ashton is a free man living off the street who wishes to make the world learn the lessons he learned while locked behind bars.
Personality: A cynical man at heart, Ashton enjoys manipulating those him so they can share his point of view. Though he genuinely doesn’t mean anyone harm, his firm belief that happiness can only be achieved when everyone realizes how worthless the world is. What is the need for a boring ordered society when humanity will perish one way or another. Life should be all about finding the most enjoyment you can, and if people were not so hung up by what others were doing, they could reap true fulfillment in life.
Superpower: Can merge into the shadows oh people and objects. While in a shadow, his movements are limited to that of the shadow; however, he cannot be harmed in this form. (Unless of course he is attacked by another shadow being). If a shadow he is merged into were to separate into multiple shadows, he will stay apart of the bigger shadow, but can maneuver himself to the smaller shadow. Ashton cannot transfer to another shadow while already in a shadow, he must first revert back into physical form to do this.
Miscellaneous: (Anything that doesn't belong elsewhere.)

OPTIONAL: SECRET IDENTITY
Super Name: Anarchist’s Shadow
Super Appearance: Over the entire body, a black body suit covers Ashton. On his face is a white mask with a large perturbing smile and no other facial features. Finally, he wears a pure suit vest, dress pants. and dress shoes.
Alliance: Neutral
Miscellaneous: All of the pieces of his costume were stolen from a nearby costume shop.

Spoiler : Mimi Queue :
Username: Veegee Biyemm
Character Name: Mimi Queue
Age: 19
Gender/Sex: Female
Appearance: Kinda short, but otherwise average build. She has dark brown eyes and medium-length, straight, blue hair. When not in her work uniform, she’s often seen in an army green jacket over a yellow t-shirt, and a white pair of jeans.
Backstory: Due to the nature of Mimi’s powers, there’s no way of knowing when they actually developed, but she discovered them when she was 12. One day, she was playing in her backyard when she saw a superhero flying overhead. Like all kids that age, she loved superheroes and liked pretending to be one. At that moment, she imagined being able to fly, herself, and then, she was! More specifically, she was “flying” a couple feet off the ground, and could only move forwards and backwards, but regardless, the little girl was ecstatic. She quickly ran inside to show her parents, but when she tried to do it again, she couldn’t. Naturally, they didn’t believe her.

Eventually, Mimi figured out the trick to her power, and she grew up planning her big debut as hero. She drew costume ideas. She thought up hero names. As a teenager, she’d sneak out of the house to watch nearby super fights and practice her power from a safe distance. However, as she learned more about her abilities and, more importantly, her limitations, she began to get more and more discouraged as she found it harder to imagine how useful she’d actually be.

Now, Mimi makes a living as a barista at the Bean Lately, and as a commission artist on social media. She still sometimes imagines putting on a costume and fighting crime, but to her, it’s nothing more than an unrealistic fantasy. Especially if she were to do it alone.
Personality: Chipper, yet down to earth. Is the kind of person who doesn’t have to “act” friendly at work, but also doesn’t have any high expectations for herself. Thinks of herself as realistic.
Superpower: Can “almost copy” any power she sees. Whenever she sees a superpower being used, she can then use a power that in some way produces the same results as what she saw. So if she, say, sees Volt Maxium shoot a lightning bolt, she can then do something that produces a bright flash and leaves a scorch mark. (It could also potentially hurt somebody if she saw the lightning bolt hit a person.) There’s technically no limit to how many powers she can have, but each can only be used once, if she wants to use it again she has to see it again, and the longer she waits after seeing the power before using it, the more distorted (aka worse) the copy will be. Generally, if she wants the copy to be even remotely useful, it has to be used within the first 10 minutes. (It’s most accurate within the first 30 seconds, when it’s still in her short-term memory.) Also, going to sleep and waking up will “reset” any potential copies she has in her, as well as undoing any changes a copy has made to her.

Technically, this applies to not only super powers, but any feats or abilities she is otherwise incapable of, such as heavy lifting or acrobatics, though she prefers not to risk copying anything that isn't flashy. Also, it's purely biological. If anyone gets their "powers" from gadgets or devices, she can't copy them.
Miscellaneous: Nothing I can think of.

OPTIONAL: SECRET IDENTITY
Super Name: Bootleg
Super Appearance: The torso part of her outfit is black with an emblem on the chest that looks like two overlapping circles, the full circle being yellow and the partial circle being orange. The sleeves and legs are also orange, and she has an orange domino mask. Also she puts her hair in pigtails so people won’t recognize her.
Alliance: None.
Miscellaneous: She hasn’t actually yet used any of this and doesn’t even have a costume made, this is just what she came up with when she was a kid.

Spoiler : Do What You Want 'Cause A Pirate is Free :
Username: Devious Lawless Admiral
Character Name: Morgan Avery
Age: 25
Gender/Sex: Female
Appearance: Image
Backstory: Originally using her powers for good, Morgan used to work as a lifeguard at a local pool. However, she quickly grew bored with this, finding it a tedious use of her extraordinary abilities and the pay not enough for one able to do what she could. One night, after watching perhaps a few too many movies, she hatched a plan.

She developed the identity of Captain Bonnie Harpoon, and after perhaps a bit too much research, bought the not quite historically accurate costume and the sword to go with it, plotting to commit robberies about town using her powers. In order to avoid the issue of being recognized at work or around town, she took an extended leave of absence. When she eventually gathered enough plunder, she would store it away until finding a way to legitimize it.

As it stands, she's only gone through with a handful of heists, and is only beginning her piratical career. While still technically on leave, she will go about her daily life around the city, trying her best to avoid those that would recognize her and scoping out potential targets for the Captain.
Personality: Morgan is mostly pretty laid-back, and doesn't really plan things out long-term, preferring short-term plans that have some assurance of working out. Despite working as a lifeguard, she doesn't really care much about helping others, having taken the job only because it was convenient at the time. She doesn't like to make waves, preferring to go with the flow and sort of keep to herself. However, as Captain Harpoon, she holds a commanding presence, as if knowing precisely what she's doing, and tries her best to make a big splash attention-wise.
Superpower: Aquamancy - While not able to create new water or really shoot it out of her hands, Morgan is able to manipulate existing water and substances with significant water content, creating different shapes and weapons from it, as well as waves, whirlpools, and the like, though the size depends entirely on the amount of water available to her.
Miscellaneous: Has a skull and crossbones tattoo on her left shoulder, though it's usually covered by her shirt sleeve.

OPTIONAL: SECRET IDENTITY
Super Name: Captain Bonnie Harpoon
Super Appearance: Image
Alliance: Villain, works solo.
Miscellaneous: Keeps a flask filled with cola in one of her coat pockets as well as a small plastic spyglass, and affects a stereotypical pirate accent while under this identity.

App approved, though range on her power would be appreciated. Your story begins.

EDIT:
Spoiler : Maria Nette :
Username: gotMLK7

Character Name: Maria Nette

Age: 15

Appearance: Image
About 5'3" tall. Her body is covered in stitches like the ones on her hands and neck. Her hair is tied low down her back, and reached around her shoulder blades.

Backstory: Not much is know about her. Her name really only seems to be registered to her school; she's almost off the grid otherwise. That being said, she's a fairly normal girl, otherwise. She attends a well-respected private school, St. Martha's Academy, and holds some fairly good grades there. Her powers aren't too big a secret at school, and her friends all know that she's a Super and are fairly supportive of her and help her out with anyone who tries to be a jerk to her. She likes to hang out with her friends pretty often, and generally shakes off conversation regarding superheroes or supervillains. She lives in an apartment with her mother and two cats. She seems perfectly content where she is.

Personality: Maria's playful and can be rather silly. She likes to lighten the mood and generally give positive vibes, though her intimidatingly sharp grin does put some people off. That being said, she is rather mature for her age. She's very capable of dropping the fun when the situation calls for it, though she greatly prefers to ignore serious or sad talk and keep at least a façade of positivity up. She's casual when it comes to most things, including her power, and will even demonstrate it to people if they ask nicely enough. She sometimes has a bit of a dark sense of humor that catches people off guard. She's a very nice girl, but her eccentricities and thick air of curiosity has distanced some people from her. That doesn't mean her friendships aren't genuine or close, but it's not too uncommon for strangers to write her off as some weird girl, or even see her as slightly sinister. There's a lot of things she doesn't like to talk about; changing subjects is common in conversation.

Superpower: Self-Dismemberment - Maria is capable of removing any part of her body at will. Arms, legs, fingers, head - she can even split her entire torso in part. She can control her limbs perfectly fine when they're unattached, and she loses no blood as a result - she doesn't take any physical damage from cuts or slices, conveniently. Her body heals itself through black strings that are naturally grown in her body, which are prehensile and can perfectly stitch the body back together, though said stitches sometimes don't fade properly, leaving her body in its current state. There's a lot of ways she can use this ability, including stitching her body together in bizarre ways, extending her reach using the strings, scouting ahead with her body parts (she has some sense of what they're doing and their surroundings, though they can't see directly through them), and she can even stitch body parts to other objects at times. It's a convenient ability in a lot of ways, though her strings can only extend so far. She can use her body parts at any distance, but if they're out of the string's range, it's very possible for her simply lose her body.

Miscellaneous: She's kinda sensitive about her teeth, though she pretends she's not. She has a bad tendency to cut off her own fingers without noticing during cooking; her mother has made a habit of checking the food before it goes in the oven just in case.

Spoiler : Caralyn Melanie Dimanche :
Username: Alnar
Character Name: Caralyn Melanie Dimanche
Age: 24
Gender/Sex: Female
Appearance: Caralyn Dimanche is a tall woman (5'8") with an athletic body build of a gymnast, though she doesn't really show it off during work. She has smooth, fair skin with a light tone. She has medium-long strawberry pink hair styled into several swirly locks with alternating white-highlights that almost makes it look like soft-serve ice cream coming from half-down of her hair. Her bright cheery eyes are caramel brown and compliment her bubbly personality.

Caralyn is an ice cream vendor, so she is always seen wearing her uniform consisting of a white double-breasted jacket with the sleeves rolled up to her wrists, a dark chocolate brown apron tied around her waist, creamy brown pants, dark-brown loafers, and a red ice cream hat precariously balancing at an angle on her head. She wears a rose gold ice cream-shaped locket given to her by her sister.

Backstory: Born alongside her sister as two children to a family that owns an ice cream business, Caralyn has been with these delectable frozen treats for as long as she can remember, spending most her time in the ice cream parlor run by her parents. She was close with her family and most especially her sister, Chelsea. The two of them were inseparable as children, sharing an unbreakable sibling bond that stayed true even as they grew older. Originally from France, Caralyn's family moved to Proprius a few months after she was born. Caralyn led a fairly normal childhood living in Proprius, all things considered. When she graduated from high school, Caralyn decided that she wanted to take up the family business and thus studied in France to earn a degree in culinary arts.

Upon moving back to Proprius, Caralyn inherited the family business early from her parents who retired to return to France, leaving her with her sister. Managing the Doux Dimanche Ice Cream Parlor all by herself, Caralyn takes joy in creating various frozen treats to spread the same sweet feeling of glee to all her customers. For her, there's nothing better than eating a delicious dessert, aside from maybe seeing the smiles people make when eating them.

Personality: If Caralyn were to be described in one sentence, then it would be that she is as sweet as the cold desserts she makes. She is always seen as cheerful and lively. Whenever she is working at her ice cream parlor, Caralyn always gives her best smile, showing passion and joy as she makes and serves ice cream to her customers. She loves talking to people and getting to know more about them and she is almost always the one who initiates conversation. Being French, Caralyn can't help but mix in a few words from time to time when she speaks, complete with an accent whenever she feels like it. She can be rather insistent, and sometimes a bit pushy, but there's no doubt that she'd be that one friend who never fails to put a smile on your face no matter the circumstance.
Superpower: ??? - Caralyn's powers are definitely a mystery. Is she even a super?
Miscellaneous: Caralyn loves ice cream and other sweets, but she's lactose intolerant. She usually has a bottle of pills lying around somewhere to help her with this. Her hobbies include fencing and gymnastics. (she has to take care of her figure, after all!) Caralyn's ice cream parlor, Doux Dimanche, is right beside Icington Bakery.
Spoiler : Glachérie :
Super Name: Glachérie
Super Appearance: Glacherie covers her face with a cherry red semi-reflective glass visor. She has swirly strawberry pink hair with white highlights. She wears tight-fitting matching strawberry pink fencing jacket and breeches along with a vanilla white fencing cloak over her right shoulder and knee-high boots. Around her waist is a cherry red belt with several containers over different flavors of ice cream around it, as well as an ice-cream scoop hooked on the left-hand side.
Alliance: She is not allied with anyone, but she fights on the side of good.
Miscellaneous: Her fencing cloak is made of a special insulating material that wards off heat and small flames while also keeping everything underneath it cold and fresh. This helps prevent the ice cream around her belt from melting and is a wonderful accessory to have on hot days!
Superpower: Ice Cream Manipulation - Glachérie can control the shape, texture, consistency, and hardness of any ice cream and fashion them into helpful constructs or more effectively as weapons, but her powers will not work on anything else, not even water or ice. The amount of ice cream used matters. If she were to create a wall, she will need an equivalent amount of mass in order to create it. This is why she is able to use her power more effectively when creating weapons, since they require less ice cream to make. Different flavors also give her creations different properties. Vanilla is the most flexible of the flavors, capable of stretching and withstanding stress. Chocolate is the most reactive, her powers are a catalyst that causes the flavor to explode when channeled. Strawberry is the most solid of the flavors and is used as the 'steel' of most her weapon constructs. Her powers are capable of constructing the following, but are not limited to:
  • The Vanillasso - Made with vanilla, it is a flexible whip Glachérie uses to attack and ensnare her foes.
  • Chocolat Bombe - Chocolate ice cream encased in grenade-like capsules. When Glachérie channels her power, the bombs explode into a hot and sticky chocolate fudge mess that is extremely hard to move on.
  • Fraisword - What seems like a simple cone of strawberry ice cream with a cherry on top is actually the weapon Glachérie uses to incapacitate enemies. She can transform this into a French sabre as a means of taking the offensive as well as defending herself against her more dangerous foes.
While Glachérie has incorporated means of preserving the form of the ice cream she uses, this does not leave them without weakness. No matter how hard or how much she thickens the consistency, ice cream is still ice cream and will melt when exposed to sufficient heat. If something were to also mess with the mixture of the ice cream, Glachérie would not be able to control it. (Melted ice cream mixed with water would become useless.) Despite that, Glacherie is not to be underestimated; she is extremely crafty with her powers even if it may be simple ice cream.

Spoiler : i dont care that i left a bunch as 'pixelgirl' :
Username: A Raw Halibut
Character Name: Leslie Van Kaan AKA “Bitgirl”
Age: 17
Gender/Sex: female
Appearance: Image
Backstory: Born in Proprius to an average couple, her parents were surprised to find that their child often had a hard time keeping it together-- literally. From a young age, Leslie struggled to control her powers, often getting lost and having to spend weeks searching for missing bits of herself. It seemed the girl would never get the hang of her abilities, until the day she met ex-hero Gloria Day, who offered to train her.

Moving to Proprius to train under Ms. Day, Leslie takes up the hero name “Bitgirl”, and begins her quest to control her powers and maybe become a real super hero too.

Personality: Leslie is a typical high school girl: nice, energetic, and prone to crippling bouts of anxiety. Her erratic nature and hormonal imbalances make it all the more difficult to focus on keeping herself together and using her powers effectively. When she sets her mind to something, however, there’s no stopping her.

Superpower: “Pixelate”: Pixelgirl’s body is made up of millions of tiny “bits” or cubes, similar to pixels on a computer screen. This allows her body to break apart and reform at will, and she can even reconstruct her body, such as detaching her arms and legs and swapping them. This allows her to avoid most physical damage, as she can break apart and reform around it-- On the other hand, it leaves her vulnerable to powerful forces such as vacuums, air currents, and waves. Essentially, she can’t be smashed, but she can be “blown”. Her primary weakness is her own anxieties, which cause her to lose control of her body and split apart involuntarily. Her powers are very directly linked to her emotions, so like most people, her greatest weakness is that she’s a teenager.

Bitgirl is able to separate and control her body like a swarm, in a range of around 10 meters from her “main” form. She’s able to send bits of her body to move around and reform or pull them back at will, so long as they’re within range. If some of her pixels leave her range, they will be unable to move until she reenters the range and collects them. Individually, each pixel can only roll/jump around or fly to other pixels.

Lastly, her body is perpetually pixelated, meaning that she can’t turn off the pixelation. She must always be using a degree of her consciousness or energy to maintain her form, lest she fall apart and become nothing. Though it hasn’t happened so far, if any of her pixels are destroyed or lost forever, she cannot regenerate them.

OPTIONAL: SECRET IDENTITY
Super Name: Bitgirl
Super Appearance: its just her but with a snazzy jacket
Alliance: neutral good
Miscellaneous: When you’ve got a problem no one else can solve, rumor has it there is one person who can help you out: Bitgirl, part-time hero for hire! Follow the address on her glitter-covered business card to the Ulysses Apartment Complex. On weekends after homework is done, Bitgirl is at your service, ready to dig your keys out of the sofa or find all the loose change around your house. She’s become well-known in her neighborhood, but nobody outside it has any idea who she is.
Spoiler : im too tired just take it already :
Username: A Raw Shark
Character Name: Oscar “Fishlips” Jones
Age: 25
Gender/Sex: male
Appearance: Image
Backstory: Ever since he was young, Oscar Jones has dreamed of running the criminal underworld. While other kids idolized heroes like Commander Skywave and Glorious Daze, Oscar desired the power of notorious villains like Sawtooth or The Grand Bootknife. When he awoke to his own superpower, he knew it was destiny-- He was destined to become a supervillain. To that end, Oscar joined up with the Crime Syndicate known as “LEGION” and has spent the last several years slumming it as a thug. Finally, he was given an important assignment: to infiltrate Proprius and establish LEGION’s power. Teamed up with his partner Bolvo, Oscar finally has his shot for greatness; but will he rise to the top of the food chain, or just be as useless as a fish out of water?

Superpower: Shapeshifting (Fish): Oscar has the incredible ability to transform himself into any kind of the hundreds of species of fish living in the ocean, gaining all of its abilities-- Except he still needs water to breathe. He can transform in and out of human form at will, but cannot switch directly from species to species, meaning he must change back to human form before becoming a different creature. Lastly, Oscar can partially transform his body, borrowing traits from a creature he chooses while still in human form, such as growing pufferfish spines or a stingray tail.

Miscellaneous:
- Oscar’s fish forms are identifiable by their striking blue lipstick, which is retained even when transformed. He refuses to ever take it off.
- Bolvo does not have any powers. He’s just a very angry dude.
- He earned his name “Fishlips” from his fellow thugs. He’s very protective of his lipstick.

OPTIONAL: SECRET IDENTITY
Super Name: “Fishlips” (Not by choice)
Super Appearance: Adds a stylish fedora and gas mask
Alliance: Neutral/himself
Miscellaneous: A small fish in a big pond, Oscar “Fishlips” dreams of glory. Joining with the crime syndicate “LEGION” might just give him that chance. But with his feeble powers, does he stand a chance against the likes of Volt Maxim or Double Vision?

"In spite of everything suggesting they do otherwise, the citizens of this town seem to be so blissfully unaware of their surroundings, and they continue to live peacefully and with little fret."

That man grinned a devious grin.

"Oh, this'll be fun."

----

Proprius

The streets of Proprius bustled. It was a busy day in a busy town, and everyone seemed to be going about their business as usual. It wasn't even noon yet, and the city seemed more alive than ever. Stores were being opened, malls were being filled, jobs were being done, and, despite the hustle and bustle, it was a rather peaceful morning. Proprius was not a very large or famous city, though it was rather urban. It had a couple of decently well-known aspects about it, but it was no big tourist destination, so the people there had mostly comfortable lives, all things considered.

Well...except for one little thing.

----

City Square

"PUT YOUR HANDS UP!"

There was a police stand-off in the center of the city. Three police cars were surrounding a suspect, with about six officers hiding behind their doors and aiming pistols. One was shouting commands, but his words did not seem to deter the suspect that they were attempting to intimidate.

"Idiots...Do they think they scare me?"

The man in the center didn't even flinch at the threats of the police, or at the guns pointed at him. He was a decently large man, but that wasn't what stood out about him. That would be his peculiar outfit - from head to toe, he was clad in some copper-colored suit of metal armor, with a blocky structure to it that almost made the man look like some kind of wall. Steel turbines jutted out from his legs, hips, back, and, most prominently, his elbows. He was clearly no average street punk...and the store he absolutely destroyed was probably a good sign of that. It wasn't much of a surprise the police were on his tail.

"Put your hands up! Any other movements and we'll shoot!" the police shouted.

"Tch...pain in my ass." The armored man cricked his neck as the officer repeated his demand. "Damn thing is so heavy...annoys the hell out of me to wear this thing and just be met with scrubs like these guys."

The man got into an odd position, with one leg in front of the other and a fist drawn back.

"I said hands up and nothing else!" the officer shouted once more.

"Heh heh heh...I'd like to see you stop me."

The turbines jutting out behind the man roared to life, blasting out smoke and light flames. The officers began to open fire, but the armor seemed to resilient - none so much as made the man flinch.

"Ahahaha, you idiots!" the man shouted. "You can't even hope to hurt me like that!" Suddenly, something bizarre began to happen - his right fist, the one reeled back, began to grow. The armor around it shifted with it, until his fist grew even bigger than the man's head. "Listen up! I am Blockade! And that means there's nothing on this whole planet that can get past me! So run home and cry, kiddies, because you're just SMALL FRY COMPARED TO ME!"

Blockade's turbines hit full power, and they sent him flying forth along the crowd - his armor tore up the tile beneath his feet, leaving a smoking trail of rubble as the man flew forward a a shocking speed. Before the police captain could react, Blockade's massive fist shot forth, the turbine in his elbow sending forth a rocket punch that shot the officer and the car door he was hiding behind several yards backwards. The other officers began to distance themselves, still trying to shoot at the villain, to no avail. He just chuckled at their attempts.

"I can resize my body parts at will, kiddies," he said. His left hand grew to the same size as his right, and he smacked the two together intimidatingly. "Everything around them, too! And it's my ticket to taking over this crapsack of a city. I'm sick and tired of living on the streets of this sham-town...I'm stronger than any of you normy rugrats! Gimme a real challenge! Where's that sparking light of your precious town, eh? That Volt Maxim and his little pal Double-Vision? They realize they don't stand a chance against the mighty Blockade?! Bahahahaha!"

The villain backed his fists once again, and the turbines began to roar to life as the cops started trying to scatter to safety.

"Heh heh...this oughta be fun."

----

Proprius...a city filled with metahumans, or "Supers" as they've come to be known. Humans that, by some genetic mystery, have been born with a strange ability or power. Some are in public, many others in hiding. Some suppress their powers, some use them for the sake of good...and some, for more sinister purposes. This is the story of Proprius, and of the many Supers living within it.

Your story begins now.
Spoiler : RP START - IMPORTANT INFO :
The RP begins now!

You are free to begin the RP however you see fit - you do not even need to acknowledge the current conflict with the supervillain Blockade. He is here as a short introductory opponent to ease into things and have a strong entrance point to segue into the other characters. React to this as you see fit - ignore it, acknowledge it, directly engage it. Whatever you see fit. I don't intend the scene to go on TOO long, so keep that in mind.

Here's a reference image of Blockade for ease. As described, he's clad in a copper-like armor and uses turbines to launch himself across the ground for extra speed and damage. His power is Limb Scaling, allowing him to increase the mass of parts of his body to multiple times their size. His fight is currently only in the City Square, at the center - you can ignore him from most other places.

I'll be posting as my other characters in a bit, but for now, you are FREE TO START POSTING! Apps are open indefinitely so no need to rush if you feel late. I hope you all enjoy, and here's the start of the RP!
