Adobe Flash Support Ending 2020

Post by TheDoctor »

Since Adobe has announced that they will stop improving and distributing Adobe Flash Player in 2020, do we have any plans for an alternative means of playing sound in AAO?

This is something that ThePasch and I have talked about, though he'd be more qualified to speak to the details.

We were planning on switching the program we used to handle sound in AAO, but it wasn't working correctly in Firefox, so we're staying with our current system longer.

Well, the soundmanager2 library that we're using is supposed to have HTML5 audio support, so it could just be a matter of changing the configuration of that lib, but yes, it depends on whether browsers actually support the HTML5 audio well enough to handle all the features we use.
