Coolmeyer's Cafe

At some point during the conversation, the waitress left to send the orders to the chefs.

And now at some point later, a new waitress came out, holding platters of food, which she placed on a small stand to pass out.

Her presence doesn't seem to be noticed by the group but her voice is oddly familiar.

"I some Chocolate Chip Pancakes and milk for you two."

The voice says putting the plates and drinks down in front of Kazuko and Thorne.

"Your Waffles, bananas and Earl Grey tea."

The voice says putting the order in front of Laura with a mention of: "We ran out of Strawberries early today. I'm sorry."

"Here's your black coffee."

The voice says placing the cup in from of Ruby.

"As for your pancakes we ran out of Strawberries early today. Would you like something else instead?"

While waiting for an answer the owner of the voice continued to distribute the food.

"Your Omelette and extra hash browns. And your coffee too."

Was said and placed in front of Karen.

"And of course, your regular."

Jane's regular order was placed in front of her.

After what felt like forever, the food had been delivered.

The voice's owner stood by, removing the small tray holder she set up to help her pass out the food.

Her voice was oddly familiar. Her clothes were too. A brown Hillshigh Jacket with an apron over it.

And a brown hat covering her face.

Outside Hills high/Somewhere in Soggan

Running in the rain is typically a poor idea. Which is just great when you live in a small town that never stops raining.

Running in the rain was a girl in a hillshigh uniform. A brown hat covered her face.

She was frantic. Where ever she had to go she seemed to need to get there considerably fast.

But of course, 'fast' and 'rain' tend to equal 'accident'

As she turned a corner she ran head first into a couple of what seemed to be hills high students.

The surprise sent her flying over, landing square on her bottom.

"Ouch!"

Who were these people? The three of them looked like students of Hills High. But why were they here? And where were they going?

....and...did they have powers like her?

Coolmeyer’s Cafe

Nothing brings people together like sharing a meal. So, when the food came out and Karen had the opportunity to finally break bread with her new friends, there wasn’t a soul on Earth happier than Karen’s. Or, at least, there shouldn’t have been.

Everything seemed to be in order. Nothing particularly out of the ordinary had happened, and certainly most people not named Karen Dzielny wouldn’t suddenly start flying through their list of People They Sort Of Knew in order to identify who someone is based on their voice. The problem here was that Karen’s name was, in fact, Karen Dzielny, and that is exactly what she started to do. And even in similar prior instances, Karen was able to either come up with a name or at least the situation she might have met someone in to connect the voice with an owner.

Karen couldn’t do it.

For the first time in her life, Karen couldn’t figure out who a voice belonged to. Ok, well, beyond the fact that it came from the server that gave them their food, but she couldn’t recall how she knew this person beyond right here, right now. Her mouth started to dry up as she started to feel extraordinarily ill at ease. She took a sip of her coffee, but she got no relief. And she definitely didn’t need any caffeine.

Come on. How do you not know who this is? I’ve heard this voice before.

Karen was given some slight hope when she remembered that she did have eyes, so she might as well use them. She turned her gaze to the server and instead of immediately feeling the relief that comes with seeing someone she knew, Karen felt like she was hit by a freight train upon seeing the Hills High jacket.

She goes to my school for Christ’s sake.

Karen quickly looked back down at her plate and sought refuge in the warm steam coming off her hash browns. She tugged at her choker and swallowed.

“Looks great.”

"Oh! Um, thank you?" the waitress with the hat says. She turns her head, seeming to be rather confused by Karen's lack of enthusiasm.

"Is there something amiss, miss?"

Seeming to feel a bit concerned by Karen's response, the waitress surveys the food she placed down to see if anyone else was feeling apprehensive about their meals.

While looking over at the group, however, she seem to get distracted looking at Kazuko. Or more specifically, at Lamorak.

"Oh! Excuse me but," She says, pointing at Lamorak, "that polar bear is super cute. Where did you get that from?"

At this moment the group might notice something about this girl's voice. how familiar it sounded. It was just like the voice they all heard right before they left the Negative Zone.

Perhaps Karen, or anyone else would recognize her more clearly upon a second glance. She was wearing the exact same hat and jacket as the girl who ran up to them, only now she had an apron on too.
