[T] A Turnabout On Rails ● (Privated for edits)

Post by CodingAnt »

PRIVATED FOR EDITS

Welcome to A Turnabout On Rails! Fasten your seatbelts as this train will follow the track to its destination no matter the cost. Even if that destination happens to be murder...

After the events of Dual Destinies, Phoenix and Trucy Wright have been invited onto a renowned luxury train called the Royal Way Express. What's better is the invitation comes courtesy of Global Studios director Timothy Raine, who is near the end of production for his latest film based on the titular attorney's life, and Vicky Claudeston, an actor in that movie. But when the four of them finally meet, Raine and Claudeston are murdered, with Trucy as the only suspect in a locked room mystery. With Phoenix Wright taking the stand as a witness, it's up to Apollo Justice to defend his close friend and former assistant. Follow your train of thought to its rightful conclusion and slam the brakes on this mystery to catch the true killer... Or killers!

Welcome.
This is pretty well done compared to many other first attempts.
There's little to complain about in terms of presentation, clearly you got the editor figured out well enough. (Perhaps the ending was a bit abrupt and needed a fade to black)

Still, I'm not sure the logic at the end makes sense.
Spoiler : :
They're saying that Phoenix Wright and Trucy conspired. So far so good. A possible way for it to have gone down is presented, with the victim running out the door and knocked out by Wright before getting shot. We object to this by saying that due to the burn marks, the shot could not have happened from a distance.
This leads to Trucy being completely dismissed as an option for this murder and Phoenix getting accused instead.
Why, though?
The first counterargument I anticipated would be that... Trucy just walked a couple steps forward and pressed the gun against the victim's forehead. If there was any reason she couldn't have just done that, I must have missed it.
There shouldn't have been anything preventing her from stepping out of the room. The door just got unlocked after all.
Time couldn't have been an issue since the theory already includes the victim getting knocked out and stuffed in a suitcase first, so there's no risk of him getting away or anything. They also "put everything back" at the scene in this scenario. If there was enough time to set up the whole scene, there should have been enough time and opportunities for that, too.

Thank you for the feedback! In terms of your complaint about the logic...

I had a few reasons in mind for why this isn't an option. First, it's a bit of an irrational thing to do with a gun, which I admit doesn't mean much. Second, at that range, Trucy would've used the knife, which she would've knocked out of the victim's hand in this theory, and doesn't make any noise. (I covered this in one of the press conversations.)

Wright wouldn't have noticed the knife and was already up close to the victim, which is why Detective Hubble assumes it's him.

But now that you've brought this up, it IS kind of out of the way/not in the trial altogether, so I'll definitely work on this part of the trial.

Very Looking forward to the Next Part 2 but I would appreciate it if you add a Walkthrough because kinda took me 3 hours because I have a low IQ.

Haha, fair enough, I should've thought of that earlier. I've added one now for all your walkthrough needs.

The investigation phase (part 2 of the overall case) is done! It actually didn't take that long, all things considered, I was just preoccupied with school, another project of mine, and my own laziness. In any case, have fun collecting clues aboard the Royal Way Express!

Trial 2 is done! Incidentally, I've decided to rename the case to "A Turnabout On Rails" just because I like it better.

The full case is done! I've been working on this project for literal years now, on and off, so it's pretty surreal to not have to work on it anymore. Anyway, look forward to finally uncovering the truth behind both murders aboard the Royal Way Express!

☆ This case is pending a QA inspection to be featured.

I'll be taking this one, will have the review this month for sure, hopefully within the next two weeks.

Due to some personal issues, the QA is delayed, but I'm working on it! Question about a part where I'm stuck:
Spoiler : :
In Phoenix's first testimony, should the "I'd like to talk with just Trucy now" line imply that Claudeston left the room as well? I've tried to present that, but I can't find a way.

If that isn't the issue in this CE, I'd appreciate a hint.

Don't worry about it! I don't mind if I have to wait a bit for a delay. Anyway, about that point where you're stuck, here's a hint:
Spoiler : :
Nope, that's not the issue. I assumed it was implied that Claudeston filled the role of a second interviewer, and thus wouldn't leave during the interview, but that could be my bad for not making that clear. I could probably just change that line from "I'd like to" to "we'd like to" if that would clear things up.

You are right, however, about the contradiction being Phoenix not mentioning something that should've happened, which you can probably tell needs you to present something to the last statement where he says "And that's it. That's all that happened."
